4 oz. Baker's sweet chocolate
1/2 C. boiling water
1 C. Butter
2 C. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 C. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla
2 C. all-purpose flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t.salt
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten

1) Melt chocolate in boiling water.
Cool.
2) Cream butter and sugar until
fluffy. Add yolks, 1 at a time,
beating well after adding each yolk.
3) Blend vanilla and buttermilk to
chocolate mixture.
4) Sift flour with soda and salt,
add alternately with chocolate
mixture to creamed butter mixture
beat after each addition until
smooth.
5)Fold in beated egg whites.
6) Pour into three greased and
floured 9" pans. Bake at 350 F. for
30 to 35 min. Cool and frost layers
with Coconut-Pecan Frosting.
