Date Filling:
3 C. cut up dates
1/4 C. sugar
1 1/2 C. water
Crust:
1/2 C. butter
1/4 C. shortening
1 C. packed brown sugar
1 3/4 C. flour
1 t. salt
1/2 t. soda
1 1/2 C. quick cooking oats

Date Filling:
Mix dates, sugar and water in
saucepan. Cook over low heat,
stirring constantly, about 10 min.
or until thickened. Cool
Crust:
Cream butter, shortening and sugar.
Mix in remaining ingredients. Press
half the mixture evenly in bottom of
greased 9 X 13 inch pan. Spread with
cooled filling. Top with remaining
crumble mixture, press lightly. Heat
oven to 400 F. and bake 25 to 30
min.
While warm cut into bars, about
1 1/2 X 2 inches.
