1 C. raisins
1 C. water
3/4 C. shortening
1 1/2 C. sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
2 1/2 C. flour
1/2 t. baking powder
1 t. soda
1 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. cloves
2 C. rolled oats
1/2 C. nuts

Simmer raisins in water over low heat until raisins are plump, about 20 to 30 min. Drain liquid into measuring cup, add water to make 1/2 cup.
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in raisin liquid. Blend flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Stir in. Add rolled oats, nuts and raisins.
Drop rounded teaspoons about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Pre heat oven to 400 F and bake 8 - 10 min.
