The lovely Celes, deep in thought. Celes

Full Name: Gen. Celes Chere
Birthplace: Presumably Vector
Approx. Age: Early 20s
Ability: Runic (thoroughly useless throughout most of the game)
Occupation: Former Imperial General, currently member of Returners
Class: Mystic Knight (Magitek Knight)
Joined Returners: Upon her rescue by Locke, it was either go with him or be executed for treason by the Empire. Tough choice... She came to realize that she had made the right choice later on.
A Brief History: Born in Vector and raised by the military-industrial complex of the growing Empire of Gestahl, her only friend growing up was the scientist Cid, who developed the Magitek infusion process that would eventually give Celes her spellcasting abilities. After her augmentation, she was implemented as a living weapon of mass destruction along with the other elite members of the Imperial army. Gestahl saw to it that she would raise quickly to the rank of General to serve him alongside Leo and Kefka. She demonstrated her capabilties during the Empire's conquest of Maranda. While commanding an occupying force in South Figaro, she was arrersted for treason after speaking out against Kefka's plans to use chemical warfare against Doma. On the eve of her execution, she was rescued by Locke, who brought her into the underground world of the Returner resistance.
Strange Little Secrets: In the beginning of the World of Ruin, you have several choices of fish to feed Cid. If you feed him fast-swimming fish, he will get better and send you off on your way to Albrook. If you feed him slow-swimming or dead fish, he will sicken further and die, at which point, Celes attempts suicide in one of the most touching scenes in the game. She then sees evidence that Locke is still alive, and is motivated to venture out to find her lost comrades. While saving Cid is a worthwhile cause, one of the most moving and maturely-handled scenes in video game history will be lost.
My Favorite Weapon for Her: Tough one. Break Blade is fun, as is Enhancer, as is the Crystal blade. I don't tend to like the big swords like Excalibur and Illumina too much, so I avoid those. In any case, I think she got ripped off by having the Runic command, which is basically useless. She should have gotten General Leo's Shock.
Memorable Quote: (when being rescued by Locke in one of the great Star Wars tributes in recent years) "You're awfully short for a trooper."
