Free Knight's

Who or what is a free knight, often this is asked. Wanderers they be
oft not bound by religion or royalty but true to much in all lands.
These travelling souls seek not the glory in tourney save only to be
true with all acts in the way of their hearts calling. Oft they battle
or go against wishes of those of light and darkness with out prejudice
to guide and protect the innocent. They are not perfect as no one is
but always seek to improve in there lifes quests which often lead to
that which is greatest in life...love. E'er they seek to carry to all
places upholding the essence in word and deed of courtesy, friendship
and chivalry with the law of good. Many try to stereo type these oft
lone individuals in terms of "Knight Errant" or "Rogue Knight" but
once they are truly known and the letter of such terms are known then
truth tis found. If an example could be given of one such twas a man
who fought for the lady he loved and freedom for his country and cant
be classed in the two previous terms but was truly a knight, his name
was... William Wallace

Of Past and Present; a wandering knights story

Unto newly hewn northern lands of the king of anger and the
queen of deception twas born a son. From early age the mother
poisoned the boy towards his father who in turn taught the
child with iron hand. Following the first born were two sisters
and a brother who to by no choice other than to live were drawn
in to that already started. Sadly the father hast never truly
known a womans comforting love from childhood to marriage, the
mother one who is never wrong in her own mind. E'er they art
till this lifes end save perhaps in final moments to be set
in there ways unchanging.
Unknown to all were raw energies within he born firstly of
this tragic union. The powers in first light came as untrained
abilities to see instantly that of right and wrong. Though this
in it self twas benign in the manner of the empath to oft perceive
overwhelming rampaging emotions and react thusly as well.
Surviving and coping with this was only due to other primal forces
within. The lad twas of strong stocky frame but whence oft came
a raw need, great strength and bearance of pain unequalled
sallied forth.
At an early age afore a quarter score brewed forth in this
youngster a yearning for justice and truth. Of gentler manner
e'en empathic of creatures wild and domesticated a natural
urge to comfort and protect came to fruition. In early rare
glimpses of clarity and serenity the child knew what he must
do. Live unselfishly for others no matter what came afore in
challenge in this twas made his first sacrifice
...childhood.
Already unto half score the child hadst conquered much of
angers whelping with an appreciation for good and intelligence
beyond peers. Though still much was against he raised remotely
unto society norm twas the child muchly a barbarian. Within a
purest heart beat which could not see the need to wantonly
hurt others in ways physical or mental. Whence first seeing
others pummeled or vocally abused knew not what to do other
than leap forward and take the malicious punishment of wrong
meant for others. Even oft fighting on anothers behalf those
five years his senior.
Of years afore three quarter score the firstborn bared much
for others some times solemnly yet at other times with fiery
righteous rage unbound. Of matters academic twas easily seen
abilities surpassing peers allowing lifes choices galore...
though this twas not to be. Unto new lands moved and built
upon and abroad still voaraciously burned fires undaunting
fires of despair. Secret personal vows were made to protect
and nurture first others then his own heart and inner child.
Though twas not till many years later that he wouldst understand
his own heart and truly appreciate it.
Unto a few years before full score the lands newly finished
were lost due to previous problems and more they moved to and
rented a small estate. Twas an old family tradition of all
generations past that if there is not enough to feed the many
then the oldest child must leave. Out to the world went the
young man becoming one not of academic path but a skilled still
growing warrior of hard earned experience and leadership. Unto
all a scarred champion of virtue thrusting forth laughing at
chaos a mercenary tithing and oft freely unto all of righteous
need. Then came one year of two battles and due to negligence
of comrades grevious injuries of which if not properly
recuperated wouldst e'er haunt for long term. Though with each
of these woundings, those past and yet anew living for others
he would not stop.Instead rode forth each time more unrelenting
than the last without pause to heal or appease
pain abounding.
Through battles raged came the age of full score and quarter
the time now to help his sisters now stabler of ways ready
to proceed in tutelage learning the ways and arts of ladies
in an everchanging world. Unto them he tithed also aiding
them in lodging, living and tuition. In time they grew to
resent their benefactor who took no rest and was always battling
for they and others he didst support selflessly. The sisters
resentment came fostered and fed by the youngest brother who
of selfish and chaotic ways took all wisdom and coin lent by
the firstborn to much destruction. E'en those who looked upon
this youngest sibling as an older brother were caught and
nearly destroyed save for the return and interventions of he
long away. Great struggles ensued in battle and law, finally
the younger twas defeated and set with out choice to ways more
productive in far off lands.
For all this to be accomplished and more e'en a mercenary
officer unresting could never hope to afford. So taking
greater risks the warrior formed and trained mercenary
companies with all including he riding forth to many lands
hiring out to just causes. Before one war beyond concept
of e'en immortal ken which none expected to survive he was
knighted. He alone of his companies rode forth to aid old
friends of the knighthood for whom he long ago contracted
as a mercenary in their past wars and had turned away many
previous offers to join. For a great long time they had always
deferred to him as one of there own as he had learnt all there
considered outdated ways as a young aspiring mercenary. Only
this knewest knight emerged as lone survivor of this clash
and last of an ancient order of
golden hearts united.
Finally he rested disbanding his companies taking time
to ensure all former members were ably prepared to take
a more stable path than he had tread. Of many orders
medicinal and healing he sought to learn of and perhaps
to limited degree heal old injuries. Unto this day of writ
still these pains of old are solemnly bared as none to date
though still examining damaged areas have the knowledge
to heal them. In this time slower the knight journeyed to see
an old friend of whom he had helped unfailing in the past.
This friend after a time of short joyous reunion and stories
shared didst beseech him to learn to trust others with
personal matters. He after a time wandering anew in
thought found two who could be trusted, they not
of his own blood.
In time a friends comrade had need of this now lone
knight. To rule, govern and defend a remote area where
many of such position given of permanence had fled in
regularity even after a few weeks or days passed.Accepting
terms for a months time he rode forth and to these new
surroundings and in a few days doubled economics and
brought peace. With courtesy, open mind and unyielding
heart this wast maintained by his guidance for three
months a term much longer than originally
planned.
A new call came forth from old comrades and enemies
of battles long gone. E'en those who hadst run afoul
of his past mercenary days and put to task by he came
in peace. In lands over the great oceans twas needed
many mercenaries of various expertise. The quandry of
those travelled thusly before their former recruit,
trainer and captain was matters needed tending in there
absence. They sought one whose honesty, word and competence
would guard and safe keep all they owned. Another concern
twas wages as oft a mercenaries coin is "lost" or delayed
to loved ones. In times past they had been protected in
this and also their very lives by battle rage or calm
decisions of this now lone knight.
At great personal financial cost he researched journeying
for these mercenaries learning new laws, making contracts
and means to begin due process on their wishes. Twas all
brought to fruition and all went smoothly with the knights
personal overseeing of all ventures. Then in time twas
brought unto he missives by a lady who didst profess a
great heart and he who before had only experience with
battle and helping others twas blinded by tales she
wrote. So he set forth sailing to her far off land never
even with out having seen even a portrait of she. Twas a
joyous occasion but in time upon return and much soul
searching he knew this was not the lady of past love
truest he sought and ended any further relations beyond
friendship with this lady. So twas done with much to
the regret of many but for the good of all hearts
concerned and truth now finally known.
In the time away much had happened for those left in
charge had with uncaring competence and ulterior motive
done much to bring consternation to he returned and far
off mercenaries. Also in his absence the younger brother
had returned nursing jealousy and hatred for his elder
sibling didst with lies home and abroad create more
troubles. The knight formed a new mercenary company and
contracts but ran them silently himself to protect the
interests of those who had given great trust to him.
In times much later he saw coming great politics abroad
which would be to the undoing of many whom trusted him
to over see their welfares. So in keeping with righteous
thought he found the mercenaries work in more stable
areas with larger older established groups at considerable
losses to personal fortune.
So again he rode alone journeying some times as a knight
hiring to just cause or freely aiding others considered
insignificant to many. In times past he had rode into
magical mists and found new lands to wander through
and search. Unto these he returned through the mists
and gradually over time reminisced with old and made new
friends. Often helping other travellers as situation
and time permitted.
One friendship made and never to be forgotten was with
a young lady of great beauty, charm, wit and heart
recent to a realms court. They talked and laughed at
great length for hours often lost in time the sun would
rise and shine before they rested. And for a great time
the battle worn heart new peace and was true in all. With
renewed vigor he returned to battles neededing presence
of himself.
After further passing of seasons much changed. This love
for a time shared became friendship honored in agreement.
He continued forth fighting e'en though bearing heaviest
heart with recent injuries, for innocents bringing freedom
and love to all good folk. As e'er he is oft found in
beauteous places tis found sharing of gentlest wisdom,
boundless mirthful acts, truest praising and a shoulder
for many of open mind, and heart.
In time a friend of a friend twas in need of the lone
knight, so forth he rode to her side. To his greatest
surprise and joy he found that he to needed her as in
gentlest sharings there hearts began to heal together.
And a beautiful friendship begins to grow with truth,
integrity, honesty and greatest happiness in all. In
time she healed and he saw love hadst grown in her
heart for another and twas truly glad for this dear
forever friend with an angels heart.
As he didst wander one day through many lands exploring
eaisier and more routes for many travellers a new friend
appeared. The conversation was as always polite and in
time the knight didst share with her wisdom for matters
that troubled her. The place their paths didst cross twas
near a castle so high in the clouds. In the mist another
traveller appeared quietly, he didst in e'er alert caution
perceive her presence yet felt within she twas no threat.
In all actuality he twas most curious and e'en more so when
shyly out of the mist this beautiful princess didst appear.
Courteous pleasantries were exchanged in introduction,
gentle talk ensued.
With time the first lady didst leave as matters called
her attention and the conversation continued now with but
two. The knight had stayed in the company of the princess
longer than he should pressing his schedule to outer limits
in delaying to share more with her, and did truly wish that
this time shared would not end. Eventually he had to leave
her company, politely exchanging farewells for the day and
escorting her to carriage. There was a mutual open want to
speak again and both did fully look forward to next meeting.
Through the night and into the next day he didst ride and
deal with all matters pressing. Late in hours of the morn
he found himself out side the castle of the princess and
again there delighted conversation renewed. Wishing not for
her to feel as though his rushed departure of previous eve
was in any way a reflection of her company or character he
had made this sleepless journey to enjoy time with her. This
she saw and didst bid him to rest, e'en though neither wished
in any fashion to end this short second time together.
So they both departed to the day in mutual aquiscience
with mutual voiced agreement of wishing to meet again. And
they did, several times, each new sharing more so enjoyed.
Since gentlest beginnings a courteous friendship now continues.
For a time this gentleman guardian of good helped the princess
in her new role as a queen to build a realm. Also walked with
her in times of troubles in shared guidance as he had done
quietly for many in past wanderings. Several demons were met
and defeated on the behalf of this lady and others. He to
revealed great truths of herself, others and the ways of
goods truth and evils deceptions which plagued her for a long
time. Parting of her regular company in courtesy he continues
on upon eternal quests as a guardian of good wandering planes
in multiple.
