I’ve been watching the ratings was between the big two for some time now and something is becoming very obvious as of late. I can remember back when Hogan lost the title to Luger on Nitro; it was the biggest Monday night event ever. Now it seems a match of that caliber might not even when the ratings battle. It seems both organizations have blown their loads to try and win. For example, it doesn’t make sense to give Sting a title shot against Goldberg without any notice just after he lost in the War Games match the night before. Don’t get me wrong, Sting should have gotten a title shot against Goldberg a long time ago, but why waste it. They could have built that up to a main event PPV match. If Sting got a shot, why doesn’t Bret Hart get one too, or Kevin Nash, or Hogan. Why does Meng, a Barry Darsow get shots. At least make those matches non-title matches. WCW has so much talent the don’t know what to do with it all. Main event caliber wrestlers wander around aimlessly without an angle or any prospect of one. WCW should look to more of what they are doing with Flair. Keep someone off TV for awhile and then bring them back in dramatic fashion. Macho Man for example, when he does come back he will be twice as popular for the sole reason that everybody missed seeing him. WCW needs to take a page away from WWF and let the angles build the wrestlers instead of vice-versa. No more midcarders getting pushes on Nitro, leave that for Thunder. Let Nitro include lots of Wolfpack interviews and Horseman angles. Let the Buff and Scott do more skits and let Bishoff have less mike time. WCW has the power to crush the WWF, they could probably steal some more WWF superstars if they wanted to, but they just don’t have room for them and they certainly don’t have the imagination for them.
