Deputy Peter Aguirre, 26, was shot and killed on July 17, 1996 while trying to quell a domestic argument. Deputy Aguirre was dispatched to the home with a report that a man was holding a woman hostage. While deputies surrounded the house, a woman ran from the building. Officials said Aguirre entered the home and was shot by a man identified as Michael Johnson, 48. Aguirre’s partner returned fire wounding the gunman with a shotgun blast. Deputy Sheriff Peter Aguirre had been with Ventura Sheriff’s Department for two years. He is survived by his wife and three year old daughter.
As I held him close, I began to cry Wondering and hoping our friend would never die I could see the whites of his eyes, as he held me tight The wind whisped through his hair, as we saw the light He cried no more as we fell to the ground His one single tear, would never be found Cry not my friend God will take you home The Angels in Heaven will not be alone Your safe and well as a child to his mother You will always be remembered as
