DET. CHARLES LAZZARETTO
Memories pass, as time runs short To days gone by, and battles fought. Of traffic posts in summer's heat Of beats I walked - - a Sergeant's meet. Domestic fights, flights of stairs Arrests are made - - no one cares. Of bitter cold and lonely nights Watching, watching under corner lights. Send some help - - another brawl Sirens wail their distant call. Of rapist sought and burglars caught - - Another day in City Court. Of tests and scores - - did you hear the marks? Car 52 - - clear the parks. A shooting in progress - - message received! 10-13, a wife bereaved. Oh, how slow the cycles go, As tears are shed row by row. The pipers play their mournful tune Another brother gone too soon. So hoist one for me now and then And for others who were there when. To laughs and tears and hopes and fears For friends of yesterday's years.
Lieutenant Thomas Perrotti (Ret.) New Rochelle Police Department December 31, 1985
