Skateboarding Video Review

AMC - Promo Video 95 The AMC Promo Video features some of Northern Virginia's finest ripping the place to shreds. The story behind it all is shrouded in mystery, but i've heard that the team used to be a mischevious street gang that caused trouble whenever possible. It just so happens that they skate, and they skate well. Featured riders include John Casterline, Woody, Craig Plunges, and Mark McCarron, with "special guest appearences". A must-see.

"This is a video from some hoodlums in the ghettos of Virginia and despite the amateur filming (ha ha), there is some good skating in there. There is a little guy who appears to be black on some of his tricks and white on others. And there is this other guy who throws his board everywhere just because he doesn't land a kickflip. Otherwise, it's a definite buy."

Capital 7 films - Champions That Arn't 90 "wowee. this is a nice lil funny video. they're not pros but dont get me wrong, theyre still some kick ass skaters. travis keller, louie fountain, and some other unknowns are in this. makes you want to get out your camera and shoot pictures of your friends falling off rails onto flights of stairs. plus its only $7 so go tell travis you want one. i think the site is www.home.turbonet.com/capitalseven"

XYZ - Meet Your Maker 85 Meet Your Maker is, without a doubt, the most gory skate video that minors can legally buy. Guys get ran over, burned, speared, maimed, trampled, ran over, etc., and it's all real. It's pure entertainment. However, the video lacks one important feature of any skate video: skating. All together, there's less than 5 minutes of it. So therefore you get 5 minutes of skating and 20 minutes of death and destruction (and surfing). It's your call.

Best Of 411 v.1 93 Best of 411 v.1 brings the viewer back to the good old days of skating, when kids actually skated because they loved it, not to fit in or be cool. It brings us back to the early 90s, when the true skaters shone. Great, great vid, truly a classic. Good skating from Koston, a Woodward Skate Camp section, great contest footage, overall a highly recommended video.

Best of 411 v.2 92 Great video. Great skating from Muska, Ed Templeton, Mike Vallely, an awesome Philly Metrospective, fun contest footage, overall highly recommended.

Plan B - Revolution 90 "Revolution is the fourth video from Plan B ("Questionable", "Virtual Reality", "Second Hand Smoke") and we still can see the great influence M.Ternasky had on this company. A very good filming and solid skating, (the music is not as good as in previous ones), makes this video a good one. Skaters like Pat Chanita, Pat Duffy, Colin McKay&Dany Way, with good lines, Jeremy Wray and B.Summers steal the video with awesome skating. You can even get footage of Matt Hensley at the end. A very good video woth cheking out."

Rodney Mullen Vs. Daewon Song 91 Rodney Mullen Vs. Daewon Song is a good vid. The video offers tons of footage from two of the greatest technical skaters out there: Rodney and Daewon. Rodney pulls out some great technical moves, and Daewon just tears it up. The video also features the A-Team, Blind, and World Industries team skaters. Overall, this is a good vid. The only downside: it's only 20 minutes long.

Zero - Thrill Of It All 93 Beware - there's a new skate team out there, and they are good. Zero's first flick, Thrill Of It All, offers some of the best skating I've ever seen. Adrian Lopez, Erik Ellington, Aaron Harrison, Scott Copalman, and the incomparable Jamie Thomas expose skating's dark side. This is not a "happy" video. It's entertaining, nonetheless. Thrill Of It All is one of the best skate vids out there. Go get it now.

World, Blind, 101 - Trilogy 95 One of the top 5 vids ever. No other video I know of offers you such skating. This is a throughly entertaining vid. It's almost like three vids in one, come to think of it. I can't think of anything to say other than this is the one.

411 VM Best Of Vol. 4 92 This is probably my favorite video. You will not ever see such enjoyable skating. One of THE BEST vids I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot. The vid features Rodney Mullen, Daewon Song, Mark Johnson (amazing section), Andrew Reynolds, and tons more. Go get it now.

411 VM Europe 1997 89 This vid was cool simply because they didn't play that stupid intro song for once. Overall the best skating (to me) was performed by Vallely, Gayle, and Barley. Mike Santarossa goofs around in a ditch. The Gonz and Pat Duffy collide in mid air and get super-duper jacked. Really good video considering it's just another 411.

Toy Machine: Welcome to Hell 92 This video kicks your ass. Welcome to Hell is easily one of the greatest skate videos ever made. It's filled with the hugest stuff I've ever seen. It's 56 minutes of jaw-dropping skating like I've never seen. Jamie Thomas, Ed Templeton, Donny Barley, and the rest of the gang are at their best. The slam section will keep you from skating for a week. Ed Templeton rips his scrotum open for you to see (we're not messing around here, jackass!). Funny. One guy even broke his neck. It really is a great video.

Thrasher: How to Skate 76 "I'm writing about a skateboard video I recently saw.It was "How to Skateboard" by Thrasher. I've been skating for a year and a half and after watching this video, and I thought it was garbage. It is too stupid and will not help any beginner with skateboarding tricks at all. It's like "Here's how to ollie: put your foot here slam the tail and jump." For kick flips it was like "Ollie and slide your foot off and land on it." Do not buy "How to Skateboard" because it's garbage. Save your money and your time.

Transworld Cinamatographer 96 "Nice video, extra good filming (hence the name). All the famous pros. I watch it every day and it hasn't gotten old like most 411s". c/o Tim Comstock

411VM. ISSUE 22 89 "I've only seen 5 of the issues of 411VM. (including this one) and this has to be the best one of them. From the very start after the intro they hit you with one of their best segments, the "Chaos" which has some unreal trickage in it (especially when Mark Johnson gets his little time slot) Then they go to the profiles. All I'll say is, if you don't know how good Andrew Reynolds, Edward Devera, and Rune Gilfberg are, you will once you see this. Also, look for the great rookies segment, with Acme rider Brad Hayes and Paul Shier (I had never heard of him and after watching this segment I was STOKED) The five Wheels Of Fortunes weren't too bad, but Enrique Lorenzo's had to be the best one (the first one they show). I've watched it with 5 of my friends and four of them think the best part of this vid. is the Skatepark of Tampa Contest which has just about everyone you could need to see in one video. The industry segments aren't bad, but I've seen better. Also, the commercials in this one are great (esp. Union's, starting off with a 360 on the roof over a gap between two houses!) It is definately worth the inflated price my local skateshop charged me for it." c/o Ryan Gorman
