Yobo and I just got back from two days away without the kids. It was the first time since our honeymoon in 1981. I really missed the kids, but really had a great time also. We plan on doing it again; and believe me, it won't take another 19 years.

We went to Ocean City. The water was very cold - now I know why we usually wait til August to go - the water is much warmer. We last went down as a family 2 years ago and the boardwalk area down near the inlet has really changed. There is a separate concrete area for the train to run on so there is more room for the people on the boardwalk. Also, part of the boardwalk was concrete and they broke that up and put in boards in that area also. All in all, a great improvement.

I ate way too much - but did a lot of walking on the boardwalk and also in the sand. My calves hurt from walking in the sand. Also burned quite a few calories battling the waves. We spent 2 hours in the ocean Friday morning and another 2 hours in the afternoon. I am not the type of person to lay out in the sun, so I did not get red as a lobster. I used the sun block generously. Keep the faith ;)

Tues, 4 Jul 00

Happy Holiday everyone!! We are just going to be lazy today and then go to Bel Air to the fireworks tonight. Havre de Grace ended their carnival Saturday and had their fireworks then. They were pretty cool. We didn't go out on the boat this year. Just too darn tired after driving back from the ocean that morning. Instead we drove across the river and went to the park in Havre de Grace to see the fireworks. That is the first time we have done that in a while. What a crowd. And a pretty rude crowd at that. They stood for the Star Spangled Banner, but many of them talked right through it. I wanted to bip them up alongside their heads. Where is the respect?

We went out the the boat yesterday for a couple of hours. Jai and a couple of her friends went tubing, then we docked at the island and swam. Actually it was pretty crowded at the island, so we anchored near the island and swam. The water was pretty rough. Partly because it was windy and partly because there were a lot of other boats. It usually isn't that crowded during the week, but I guess many people had a four-day weekend because of today being the 4th.

I got myself a hat to wear when we go out on the boat. It will help protect my face from the sun and also keep my hair from turning such a brassy red from the sun. I have a lot of red highlights in my hair, but by the end of the summer, it is usually all red from the sun on top and still darker underneath where the sun doesn't hit it.

The Y is closed today, but Yobo and I plan on getting there tomorrow. He is on vacation, so he will go there with me instead of to his gym on post. Keep the faith ;)

Thurs, 6 Jul 00

Summer school started yesterday. I am working with pre-school. What a change. I could only wish to have this job during the school year. I still don't know what is going on with my job. I probably won't know til August. I have decided not to fret about it as I am sure it will work out for the best for me.

I got up early (5:30) and met some friends and walked for 45 minutes this morning. I feel real energized now. Yobo and I plan on going to the Y this afternoon. Didn't get there yesterday because my van is in the shop and we were waiting for them to call. They finally called at 7:00 and told us it wouldn't be done til sometime this afternoon. What a drag. I hate not having it here. I can drive my husband's car, but I don't like it. He has a Grand Am and it just isn't a comfortable car to drive, in my humble opinion. Hope everyone has a good day. Keep the faith ;)

Fri, 7 Jul 00

I am proud of myself. I got up again this morning at 5:30 so I could walk with my friends. We walked 2 1/2 miles this morning; and then, since I went to the Y yesterday with Yobo, I went and walked it again at 6:00 this evening with one of the women. I plan on walking again tomorrow morning and every morning. I am hoping to get this weight loss on the right road.

Summer school is going well. One of the kids called me a stinky butt today because I made her sit out of recess for 5 minutes for running away. She is a real trip. For her the ultimate insult is to call you a brat. Keep the faith ;)

Sun, 9 Jul 00

Today makes 4 days in a row that I have gotten up to walk. We finally miled it and found out we are walking 2.9 miles each time we walk. Friday we walked it twice.

We went to the movies yesterday afternoon. Yobo, Joe and I saw The Perfect Storm and Jai and Tim saw Scary Movie. I liked The Perfect Storm, it just seemed to have such an abrupt ending. Of course, I like just about anything George Clooney does.

I still haven't seen my brother from Florida yet. They were supposed to get to Dad's around 1300 yesterday, but had car trouble and as of 1600 were just entering North Carolina. Not sure what time they finally make it in. Hopefully they didn't have more trouble and got there. I will call later, but it is still to early yet. Well, gotta go run the vacuum before everyone else gets up. Catch ya later. Keep the faith ;)

Tues, 11 Jul 00

Well, I have already done my 2.9 miles this morning. I missed yesterday because of a migraine. I got up at 5:10 and took something hoping it would ease in time to walk. The medication put me back to sleep and I woke up at 7:45. I asked the assistant principal what would have happened if I hadn't woken up and gone in to work. He said the first thing they would have done was come to the house to see what was wrong because I am so reliable. I almost told him to remember that when they were deciding where to put me in August.

I finally saw my brother and his family. We all went over my sister's for a cookout Sunday. Then yesterday they met us at the boat dock and we went out on the river. We were out from 3:00 until almost 7. The only reason we came in when we did was because it started to rain. Then we came back to the house and had burgers, hotdogs, and fresh sugar corn right from the fields. It sure was delicious. They are leaving today for Indianapolis to visit some other people.

I would like to go to Florida to visit them next summer. Not too sure if that will happen since we are going there to Disney World in December. It would be nice, though. They live in Pensacola right near Perdito Bay. Keep the faith ;)

Thurs, 13 Jul 00

Another day of walking under my belt. Only two of us walked today and we walked a little faster. Two and 9/10 miles in 47 minutes. It is supposed to rain and thunderstorm the next 3 days, so I guess I will have to dust off the treadmill. I much prefer walking outside.

My brother never did make it to Indianapolis. He got new tie rods put on his car before they came up from FL, and when they went to leave on Tues the car was acting up. Come to find out it was some bushings and things that should have been fixed when the tie rods were done. They just got it back yesterday afternoon and were planning on leaving today to go back to FL since his wife has to be back to work Saturday. They are pretty disappointed, but my dad sure didn't mind having them around for a couple of extra days. I know he will have to rest up after they leave because they have been going somewhere everyday and he isn't used to that. Keep the faith ;)

Wed, 19 Jul 00

My goodness, almost a week since I was last here. Nothing much has been happening. I have been walking every day, except for today because it was raining.

My van is in the shop again. Hopefully they will fix it right this time. It does this weird little shudder when you hit certain speeds. They said it was the torque converter and were going to replace it, then they called a technicians help-line the were told to replace something else. It was cheaper so they went ahead and did it without calling us figuring we wouldn't mind because they were saving us money. Well, it is some better, but still does it. Now they are replacing the torque converter and of course we will have to pay for that to the tune fo $400. It seems like we have done nothing but put money into both vehicles here lately. We spend over $600 the first time they supposedly fixed it and now another $400. Then last week we spent over $200 dollars on my husband's car. His car is 10 years old, but mine is only 5. We are also trying to save money to buy a new house.

I still haven't heard where they plan on putting me in August. I am hopin and praying daily that it is in another classroom. I just can't work another year with that same teacher; but I hate to quit because I love working with the kids so much. I will quit if they don't move me. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Keep the faith ;)

Mon, 24 Jul 00

Kind of a dreary day here. It was sprinkling when I went for my walk (got 3.2 miles under my belt). We didn't go down in the pit today because of the rain and the mud so we walked four laps around the upper circuit. That makes 3.2 miles. When we go down in the pit and then 2 circuits on the upper part, it is 2.9 miles.

Only 4 more days of summer school. We are picking up a new kid for the last 4 days and one has to stay home because he has chicken pox. He also got the vaccination, so I guess maybe it doesn't work for everyone.

We have had a most unusual summer this year. Here it is almost the end of July and we haven't had any real stinky, hot, humid days. One here and there, but for the most part it has only been in the mid 80s. Most days only the upper 70s. Pretty nice all in all. Keep the faith ;)

Fri, 28 Jul 99

Summer school is over. Yesterday was the last day. We were treated to lunch from McDonald's. I got a salad shaker and thought it was absolutely horrible. Ended up throwing it away.

There is a rumor going around that I will be working in a different classroom next year, but I couldn't talk to the principal yesterday because he was at the dentist. Asked the assistant principal and he said they still weren't sure. I guess I will just wait til I get my assignment letter from the Board and then call the school and ask what room I will be working in. All the letter tells you is the school you will be working at and your salary, not what classroom you will be in. I should be getting that letter sometime in the next week or so. It will have to be soon as we go back to work 3 weeks from Tuesday. We start 22 Aug and the kids start the following Monday. I'll keep you posted on what happens. Keep the faith ;)
