Chapter Nine

                                 Chapter Nine
					   The Cave
The day Lee stayed with me and worked on her story, though she
wouldn't read it to me. Then came the day. The day I had been dreading. The
day of the heist.
I stood there read to grab the money and race off on the horse Lee had
gotton, me. Sat on a sleek chestnut horse her self and had several bags of
supplies tied to it, but not alot so it wouldn't slow the horse down. The first
bagg was handed to me. I jumped up on the horse and grabbed the second
bag.
"That's the last one!" Billy hollared.
Lee looked at me and nodded. Off we went as we passed the last house
I looked back and saw Billy step out of the bank and looked at me riding
away. He jumped on the only horse that was tied up nerarby and attemped to
ride off on it. The problem was that it was an old fat donkey used for giving
kids just learning to ride lessons. He was not moing very fast. We were
quickly out in the wide open.
lee and I rode for a good three hours before we came to a pile of rocks,
just like all the other to me, but Lee stopped and grabbed the bags. We went
around to the back and she set the bags down and jumped down in a small
hole. She told me to toss the bags down and I did. She caught them and then I
squeezed my way through the tiny hole. I dropped about five feet to the
ground and landed hard on my rear. I stood up and brushed the dirt of my
bruised butt. I had worn my modern day clothing and I was disturbed about
getting my good khakis all dusty, but oh well that's life.
Lee lit a candle and the whole place lit up. I was beautiful with
beautiful sparkling stilactites and stalagmites. At the far side of this flat area
there was, as Lee promised, a smooth underground lake. I went over and
marveled at the tiny fish with no eyes. I went back and joined Lee in
unpacking the supplies. Lots of beans and cornmeal to make bread, plus what
looked like a lifetime savings of candy. When I gawked at this she explained
that her uncle works at the candy store and let her have as much candy as she
wanted. Licorice, taffy, bubble gum, and all sorts of sweets. I also saw a
small bed of hay in the back.
"My dad brought some here once so I could have a little place of my
own, but that was before he started drinking." Tears welled up in her eyes and
I couldn't resist putting my arms around her. I just held her for what seemed
by eternity. Then I heard what sounded like two cracks of a whip. Lee sluped
over and then I saw the bullet hole in the side of her head. I saw the shadow
of Billy in the hole. He couldn't get in, but his gun could. I cringed in terror
and fought back tears. I sat crouching there and evrything got very quite. I
closed my eyes and felt sick to my stomach and then I heard a toilet flush. My
eyes poped open. I wasn't in the cave anymore. I was crouched in the stall of
a bathroom at Lazer Quest. For a second I doubted I ever really met any of
these people, but then I saw the straws of hay stilll clutched in my hand from
the bale of hey I huddled in. I stood up and went over to hwere Ike was
standing. He looked truly upset. I could see he had been cry. When he saw
me though I saw a glimmer of releif, then anger flashed across his face.
"Zachary Walker Hanson, where in the world have you been?"
"Ike listen I don't know, something happened and I don't know how to
explain it."
"Enough, explain it to me in the car."
I followed in absolute terror. I had never in my life seen Ike act with
fury like this. I knew I was in for it.
