				Chapter One
				 The Funeral
When my alarm clock buzzed me at 4:45 this morning I found it very
difficult to roll out of bed. It was the morning of Saturday, September 6,
1997. I was the only one out of my whole family that was getting up to watch
Princess Diana's funeral. My mom, dad, and older brother, Jay, preferred
sleeping in.
I dazedly walked into the living room and turned on the television. Jay
had left it on MTV and Prodigy was number 13 on MTV's Top Twenty
Countdown. I flipped to NBC and solemnly watched the funeral cortege pass
the crowds of onlookers with streams of tears pouring down their faces,
mourning for thier lost princes.
I was starting to become fully awake, when I noticed an abundance of
life coming from down the street of my home in suburban Tulsa. I was about
to get up to peer out the window to see what was going on, but the procession
was interupted by Holly Saunders, the local anchor woman.
"That was coverage from Princess Diana's funeral. We will be to that in
a few moments, but first breaking news. Tulsa's newest sensation, pop group
Hanson, have had tradgedy strike. Around five last night Issac, Taylor, and
Zachary were left alone when their parents, Walker and Diana, took thier
three younger children to a birthday party of a family friend. When they
returned home around nine-thirty they found Issac and Zachary missing. In
the brother's bedroom Taylor was found unconcious with a severe blow to his
head. He is currently at Tulsa Central Hospital. Walker and Diana Hanson are
asking for any information as to the whereabouts of their two sons. If you
have any information please contact the Tulsa Police Department. Now back
to the funeral of 'The People's Princess' "
As the news sank in I jumped up and got clothes on. I ran outside the
front of my house peering doen the street to the brouhaha that was occuring at
the Hanson household. This wasn't bad for me because I am a fan of their
group, but I have been friends with them for aslong as I can remember. Just
yesterday I had gone to Laser Quest with them. As usual I sucked, but it was
still fun because I hadn't seen them in months!! I couldn't believe this was
happening!
I scribbled a quick note to my mom saying that I had taken a walk and
went down the street to see what was happening. There were about four
police cars infront of the house and an image thet I had nevr seen before in
my life. Mrs. Hanson was sobbing. As long as I can remember she always
had a grin on her face and I had never seen her this distraught. She looked up
and caught my eye.
"Oh Callie, it's awful. We came home and..." she broke up into tears.
"I know," I said gently trying to soothe her. "I heard it on the television
about 5 minutes ago and ran down here to see if it was some kind of weird
dream."
"You were watching television at this hour?" she asked momentarily
pausing in her outburst to give me a quizical look.
"I was watching Princess Diana's funeral."
"Oh, of course. After what's happened it slipped my mind. I guess I
better try to stop this childish weeping?" she confessed trying to smile.
"Walker's staying here to talk to the police and watch the little ones. i'm going
to the hospital to visit Taylor to make sure he's okay. they said he would be
fine, that he just had a little bump and we would be fine." she said reassuring
herself that it would be okay. "Would you like to come with me? I'm sure
Taylor would love to see you."
"I'd love to. Let me go tell my parents and make myself somewhat
presentable."
"How about I meet you here in half an hour."
	"Sure."
I went home and told my dozing mom the situation to which she
practically jumped out of bed. She told me to go to her purse and get out
thirty dollars to get him some flowers and something nice at the gift shop. I
went and showered, making sure not to nick myself. I blew dry my hair and
pulled it back into a ponytail. I went to my closet and put on my red honors
orchestra shirt and my wide leg jeans. I slapped on some concealer and lip
gloss and met Mrs. Hanson right on time.

As we took the 15 minute drive downtown not a word was passed
between us. I could see that she was holding back her tears so she wouldn't
upset Taylor.

As we stepped inside fear overtook me. the smell of hospital I associted with
death ever since I lose my beloved grandfather two years ago to a heart
attack. He died in this same hospital. I remember we rushed over here to get
the news that he was on his last leg. He was unconcious, they calim, when we
said our final goodbyes, but when I was in the room holding his hand i could
have sworn that he opened his eys, winked at me and smiled. Then the heart
moniter started that prolonged beep, indicating that his heart had stopped.
There was nothing the doctors could do. My mother explained to me that it
was his time.
Diana went over to the desk and found out the room number, which
was 714, and went upstairs while I went over to the gift shop. Inside I picked
out a prearranged vase of flowers. It had four brilliant red carnations that
were inbeded in baby's breath. Sticking out was a mylar balloon that had a
teddy bear on it with a bed bow tie holding a penant that said "Get Well" on
it. I also got a package of Jelly Bellys, and an old Hardy Boys for Tay. I
perchased the newest issue of seventeen for my own enjoyment.
I got on the elevator and went to the seventh floor. I found the room
guite easily. I walked in and Diana looked up. She was sitting there holding
Taylor's hand. She explained that she was going to go get something to eat
and that she should be back in an hour at the most. I sat a read through the
newest fashions till I heard the starched sheets move.
"Callie!! What are you doind in my room? I just had the worst
nightmare. Someguy came in and took Zac and Ike and tried to tkae me and I
fought back so he hit me."
"Tay, calm down. First it wasn't a dream, Zac and Ike were kidnapped.
You're at the hospital because the guy that hit you knocked you out.
"How are my mom and dad?"
"Your dad's okay, but your mom is pretty distressed. She'll be back
soon, she wnet to eat something."
"Are these for me?" he asked looking at the flowers, candy and book
that I pushed toward him. I nodded. "Thanks, but are the Hardy Boys from
the sixties or seventies?"
"Sorry, it's all they had besides adult romance, or would you prefere
the latest edition of seventeen?"
"I see your point." he giggled
