Chapter Seven

				    Chapter Seven
				 The Chariot of Fate
I stood there blinking. It took a minute to sink in that I had actually
killed someone. what kind of punishment does murder get? life in prison, or
worse, the death penalty. I was scared and I had to get out of this place. The
smell of death and blood infiltrated my nostrils. I grabbed Ike and told him
that we had to get out. He agreed that we had to leave and he got the keys out
of the hiding place and gave them to me. I unlocked the door and ran out
breathing the fresh air. As I stepped outside I saw nothing but their Buick, a
road and miles of hills like a sea of gently rolling grass. The entrance was
made so it looked like a storm cellar, maybe it was someones and they broke
in. since the Buick was still here I guessed that Jake had either walked or
taken another car. I went back downstairs and helped Ike drag Callie's fragile
body up the stairs and put her in the back seat. We unattached the U-Haul
and I went back down to get Zac and some food a drink that we would need
to last till we found civilization plus some money from Sam's wallet for gas.
"Well Ike, now where. This is not Oklahoma City."
"A lot of stations come from nearby."
"Great, I guess you'll just have to take a lucky guess on how to get
back home."
I climbed in the back next to the deceased Callie. I thought of that
poem by Edgar Allan Poe about this guy that goes and lies with his dead wife
by the sea. You must think I'm crazy, but I slipped my hand inside hers.
Last Stanza from Annabel Lee by Poe
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
			Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
			Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:--
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling--my darling--my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea--
In her tomb by the sounding sea.
Now you're really going to think i'm crazy, but after about five minutes
passed I could have sworn I felt Callie's hand squeze mine. I looked over, but
she still looked perfectly dead. Her lips a pale shade of pinkish red. Her
cheeks white with a tinge of pink on the apples, her golden hair framinf her
face. Her hand still warm. Her hand still warm?!I thought when people died
that they cooled off. she still looked dead, but I decided I should check her
pulse. there was a very faint beating of her heart.
"Ike!!She's still alive! She has a pulse!"
	"Really?!"
"You even mangaed to get us into the city."I speculated, looking up at
the skyline that pressed against the sky that was turning a pale shade of
purple as the sun slowly headed toward the horizon.
"See, I told you I could. We better find a hospital when we get ther. It
should take us more than fifteen minutes to get to the heart of the city."
