Ike Chapter Eight The Miracle When we finally found a hospitl we went inside. I went over to the front desk and explained to a friendly nurse that Callie need help, and fast. she put Callie on a stretcher and wheeled her into the ER. she told us to sit and wait in the waiting room. I sat down and picked up todays paper. Zac went over and got pop from the vending machine and Tay just paced like a caged lion. I sat there reading the newspaper and found out that we made front page news. On the front page was a picure from the cover of Midlle of Nowhere along with a description of what had happened, and who we were. I read that then moved to the sports section. By that time I had read the whole sports and comics the nurse had returned. "Is she going to be alright?" Taylor asked, with his lips trembling. "Yes, she's in intensive care, but she should live." Then for the first time in his life Jordan Taylor Hanson fainted. Zac, not knowing what to do, reached over and pinched him hard on the arm. Taylor's eyes flicked open and he stood up, abit red faced about the whole fainting incident. "Can we see her now?" "Yes, follow me." Taylor followed at her heals with Zac behind him and I brought up the rear. She led us to the ICU and to Callie's room. Taylor went in quietly, trying not to disturb Callie. He peered over at her sleeping face and sat down on one of those horrid hospital chairs, clutching Callie's hand as if letting go would make her slip into death. the tears in the corner of his eyes glistened when light shone in from the windows, the faded yellow curtians had been drawn so that the fadinf light of dusk gently shone into the room. Taylor looked crushed. How could I tell him that everything would be alright when the love of his life was hooked up to a respirator, an IV needle stuck into her plae white skin. I looked over at him and saw the tears gently sliding down his cheeks. I grabbed Zac's arm nad led him out of the room explaining to him in the hallway that Taylor needed to be alone with Callie. Zac understood, and we both morosly walked down the hall to the waitng room. I sat down, trying to think of what to do next. First the three of us haf to have a place to stay. Next we had to call out parents and tell them to call Callie's folks. I remebered I had a great aunt that lived in Oklahoma city. I think her name's Ada Taurner. I decided that she would be getting a call from her favorite grand nephew in the very near future.
