One son, Javier Alexander

Ponce's Athlete of the Year in 1984-1987

General Info

Javy Lopez had his breakthrough season in 1995. After catcher Charlie O'Brien left, Javy has been the Braves' #1 catcher, sharing the time with Eddie Perez, who only catches for Greg Maddux. Javy had some knee problems last year, but that shouldn't effect the 1998 season for him. He made his first All Star appearance last year, hitting a home run (but breaking his thumb on that homer)

1999: Javy was plagued by injuries this year and missed most of the season due to knee injuries. He was very productive before sitting down, and his bat and game-calling were really missed.
