General Info

John was acquired by the Braves in 1987 from the Detroit Tigers for Doyle Alexander. In 1996 John won the NL Cy Young award, going 14-0 before his first loss.

1999: Smoltz once again had arm problems this year and spent some time on the DL. He learned to throw more of a three-quarter arm motion rather than his old over-the-top one. Smoltz used this effectively and managed to get the Braves wins.
