Part 10

"I wonder what they want?" Janine asked quietly.

"That library book! It's a month overdue!" Lynne said.

Everyone laughed at the familiar joke-then stopped. "A month?" Mimi asked.

"Yeah, well, I was getting tired of the regular week thing." Lynne answered.

"Oh. Well, what do they actually want?" Kit asked.

"There's only one way to find out," Christine said.

"You don't mean," Gleebs said in fake shock.

"I do mean. Let's face them," Christine said.

They all slowly got up and walked to the door. Christine was the one to open it, because, after all, she had been the one to suggest facing the police. She walked out the door, and the other 8 swoonies followed her.

"'ey, there you 're," Davy said, coming out of the shadows. "We were stahting ta wonder if you were actually in there."

"We? All these people?" Janine asked.

"Yeah, when you didn't show up for the party, we started to get worried. So we got some of our pals from the police to come down here with us and get you," Micky said.

"You scared us half to death! Do you actually expect us to go to your party now, after that?" Lynne said, her temper starting to kick in.

"Uh-oh," Gleebs said. "She has a worse temper than me."

"It was just a joke," Mike said. "It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. We hope you still come to our party."

"Where's Peter?" Lynne asked. That was one way to get her temper under control.

"Right here, sweetheart," he said, coming up behind her and giving her a little kiss on the top of her head.

"Well then of course we'll still come!" Lynne said, as everybody else laughed.

"Great! You gals look smashing, the perfect highlights for the party!" Davy said.

"Of course we do! We didn't have the cops come here for nothing," Kit said, surprisingly not in a state of swoon.

Of course, Gleebs and Christine noticed this. "I think she's getting used to him," Gleebs said. Christine nodded in agreement.

They all walked to Peter's pad together, getting the funniest looks from everyone they met. After all, you didn't usually see a big row of people (13 to be exact) going down a street, doing the Monkee walk. No wonder everyone was looking at them weird.

When they stepped into Peter's house, all the Peter swoonies were awe-struck.

"How can you be this neat?" Lynne asked in wonder. "And during a party, to say the least!"

"Well, the cleaning lady just came this afternoon," Peter said reasonably. "Plus, I am kinda neat myself, as most people make me out to be."

"I like a clean man," Janine said, giggling slightly.

"Janine, you like anything that has to do with Peter," Gleebs said.

"Is there something wrong with that?" Janine asked.

"Nothing, we're just pointing it out to you," Mimi said. "I mean, I feel the same way about Micky."

"Good, I'm glad you see my point."

With that, Janine led Peter off, presumably to find an empty closet. Kat sighed.

"What was that for?" Lynne asked.

"Well, since Janine's occupying Peter, who does that leave us?" she said.

"That's true. Well, I'm sure Peter has lots of groovy friends here that we can hang out with until Janine gets bored with Peter," Lynne said.

"Janine? Get bored with Peter? Sorry, but I don't think that's happening anytime soon," Mimi said. "The same thing goes for Gleebs and Micky. I guess we can find *some* hip people to hang out with. I mean, Peter is groovy, so it just figures that he has groovy friends here."

So all the swoonies dispersed, and went off to find interesting people.

Mimi sat on Peter's orange couch, next to a cute blonde. "Hello," she said.

"Hey babe, what's happening?" he said. "My name's George."

"Hi. I'm Mimi," she said.

"You know, I'm really upset. My queen ant died this morning while I was sleeping, and before I woke up, the other ants had already gorged on her dead body," he said.

"Um... excuse me for an hour," Mimi said, and quickly left that room. She ran into Jenna, who was taking a break from David .

"You know, some people here aren't as interesting as I'd thought they'd be," Jenna said.

"Tell me about it. The guy I was just talking to was telling me about his queen ant who died and his other ants eating her dead body!" Mimi said.

"Well, there must be some interesting people around here, besides the four Monkees and David Pearl," Jenna said.

Suddenly, Mimi shrieked.

"What?" Jenna asked.

"It's.... It's..... Look!" Mimi pointed frantically in front of her. Jenna looked to see.

"Who? Who are you looking at?" she asked, not seeing anyone of importance.

"It's..... Keith Moon!" she said excitedly.

"Oh sure, now you're gonna go abandon me. Oh wait, go ahead, I see David coming back," Jenna said.

"Okay, I will," Mimi said.

She went over to Keith and started a very important (at least to her, to basically everyone else it would have meant nothing except an everyday conversation) conversation with him. David came back, and Jenna went off to a closet with him.
