Feared and hated because they have been born with superhuman powers that set them apart from the rest of humanity. One man with a very special dream-- the peaceful coexistence of humans and mutants-- brought them together. Professor Chartles Xavier founded the X-Men to train mutants in the use of their powers. Sometimes, that means fighting evil mutants who want to dominate normal humans, other times it involves stopping prejudiced humand who want to see mutankind destroyed. In either case, it means fighting for the realization of the dream. That's the basic premise behind the X-Men.
If you've never read the comics or even checked out the cartoon before, you should. In addition to some great dramatic science fiction writing and outstanding artwork, X-Men sends out a great message: that it's okay to be different. Instead of mutant, substitute any race, religion, or ethnicity, and any person on the planet can relate to the prejudice these character fight every day. That, and plenty of angst to go around.
Cyclops can fire concussive beams of force from his eyes; however, he is unable to control his optic blasts and must wear either a visor or glasses made out of ruby quartz to contain them. Orphaned at a young age, he finally found a home with the X-Men. After finally coming out of his shell and gaining enough confidence to become field leader of the team and to admit his feelings for Jean, she "died." He eventually married a woman who looked exactly like her, and they had a son. It was later discovered that his wife was Jean's clone, and she died in a battle after trying to kill her son and the X-Men. Any chance Scott and Jean had at happiness was short-lived, because Apocalypse infected Scott's son with a techno-virus that nearly killed him. In order to save his life, Scott sent him into the future, told he would never see him again.
Somehow, they managed to survive it all, Scott and Jean finally tied the knot, thirty years (our time) after they met. If you think their courtship was bad, for their honeymoon, they spent a dozen years 3000 years in the future raising Scott's son and battling Apocalypse. Through it all, though, they have managed to stay together and stay true to Xavier's dream.

Jubilee's mutant power is to emit colorful energy plasmids from her fingertips-- "fireworks," as she likes to call them. She joined the X-Men for a while, fighting by their side. During her tenure there, she was faced with many situations which forced her to grow up rather quickly; among these were the death of young Illyana Rasputin to the Legacy Virus and Wolverine's leaving the team following the removal of his adamantium by Magneto.
When the time came to start a school for the training of the next generation of mutants in the use of their powers, Jubilee decided to step down from the X-Men and to join Generation X, where she could interact with mutants her own age and better develop her powers, so that she might one day rejoin the X-Men.
