INTRODUCTION: John 10:1-10 (The shepherd and His Flock)
Religion:
False - Colossians 2:16-23
Pure - James 1:26-27
False religion:
1. Adds to or takes away truths from the Bible.
2. Have books, which they believe are equal to, or more accurate than the bible. Revelation 22:18-19
3. By following the rules (laws) of their religion they will go to heaven. Saved by works not grace. Romans3:20
4. By following these rules (laws) they can become perfect while here on earth. Romans 10:1-3 and Galatians 3:22-25
5. Hold up a person or persons who they believe are equal to God the Father or Jesus Christ. Romans1:25
6. Even if you die falling short of their standards you can have another chance through reincarnation or prayers from those still living on earth. Luke16:19-31
7. Motivated by fear of punishment rather than by the love of God. 1 John 4:15-18
Without the Word of God it would be easy to follow the standards of a false religion. 1 JOHN 4:1-6, Galations 1:6-9
Pure religion:
1. The Bible is the only source of written truth from God! 2 Timothy 3:16
2. All people who believe and receive Christ are saved by His grace! John 1:12, and Ephesians 2:8-9
3. They receive the righteousness of God through faith in Christ! Romans 10:4, and 2 Corinthians 5:21
4. They worship only God the Father and Jesus Christ his only son because He is the only source of life both here on earth and in eternity. 1 John 5:1-12
5. Christ's death on the cross is the only means God provided for us to have forgiveness of sin. Romans 4:25
6. They worship a risen Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:12-22
