TOPICAL STUDY # 1 - TEMPTATION
KEY VERSE: Ephesians 6:10-12
TEMPTATION: What does it mean? A personal desire to (or the attempt to persuade someone else to) be involved in some sinful or wrongful act!
1. What do we know about temptation?
· Everyone has the problem of temptation ….. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13
· It's a very effective tool of Satan. … Genesis 3:1-4
· God does not tempt us to sin … … James 1:13-14
· Temptation by itself is not a sin … James 1:15
2. Common false conclusions made in regard to temptation:
· Temptation fades with spiritual maturity!
· You can eliminate many sin habits once and for all!
( Satan will always test you using time)
· Eventually everyone falls during temptation!
3. Examples of temptation: 1 John 2:15-17
· Examples of lust of the flesh, eyes and the pride of life from the Bible.
A. Genesis 3:1-6
1. What way did Eve show the lust of the flesh?
2. What does the lust of the eyes refer to?
3. What's wrong with wanting to be like God?
4. Did Eve believe God or Satan (serpent)? Why?
4. How do we fight in the battle against temptation?
· Know, reckon, & yield........Romans 6:6, 11, 13
· Seek Him..........Matthew 6:33
· Be alert (on guard) and pray… Matthew 26:41
· Self-controlled (only possible in the new man)………………1 Thess. 2:15
· Always use Gods wisdom in how you live …Ephesians 5:15-17
· Stay sober at all times … Ephesians 5:18
· Submit yourselves to God and resist temptation…. James 4:7-8
· Hold on to your faith in Christ … Hebrews 4:14-16
· Meditate on scripture… Psalms 119:11
· Stand on the promises of God … John 14:6 and Rom 8:37-39
