Welcome to Canada's Pacific Coast and British Columbia

British Columbia provides comprehensive health care coverage. Proactive approaches to public health ensure high HIV testing rates. BC Treatment guidelines specify that triple drug combination therapy is the minimum treatment provided to any citizen or resident diagnosed as HIV positive with a significant viral load and marked decline in CD-4 immune function. This is a prudent response to a global pandemic.

British Columbia ranges from the temperate Pacific Ocean of Washington State up to Alaska, the Arctic and high alpine meadows of the Rocky Mountains. We have four seasons, but it can snow high in the mountains year round. Coastal areas are always more mild, both in summer and winter. Oceans and lakes can be calm or stormy, and this can change in half an hour. Some areas of the interior are as hot and dry as a desert reaching summer temperatures well in excess of 100 degrees fahrenheit (over 30 degrees Celsius). Wind and rain often tests your clothing options on a planned day trip outdoors. Wear layers.

British Columbia's West Coast has more than its fair share of mountains, mining, sun, rain, great forests, agriculture, skiing, sailing, scuba diving, fishng and tourism. A strong infrastructure of roads, rail, seaports, airports, light and heavy industry, with world class productivity make BC a wonderful place to live. We have an abundance of fresh water, some of which is dammed for Hydro-Electric energy for cities and industry. Aluminum is mined and smelted at Kitimat. Gas and oil are readily available by pipeline from Albertas rich oil and gas reserves. We have a highly educated, socially responsible populace, devoted to high technology industries, higher education and universal access to quality health care.

The Fraser Valley and Georgia Basin meet at Vancouver. The Fraser River runs from the Rocky Mountains down to the coast at Vancouver. The River runs mostly east to west at the Pacific Ocean near a body of water called the Georgia Straight. Vancouver Island and the Georgia Straight protect the port of Vancouver from severe weather. It is a broad body of water traversed by the BC Ferry system. These large car and passenger ferries allow one to drive right on board and cruise with your car to many small islands on Georgia Straight, including the largest, Vancouver Island, where our Capital City of Victoria is located.

A few river ferries still cross the scenic Fraser River, the largest river on Canada's Pacific Coast. There are great opportunities to travel rougher sections by rubber raft through narrow gorges in the river like "Hell's Gate". Hot air balloon rides across the Fraser Valley are a wonderful way to get a "birds eye" view of the valley. The Georgia Basin is the narrow band of arable, relatively flat farmable land, extending from the North Shore mountains south to Seattle and up the Fraser River to Hope. We strive to protect this precious resource for farming to ensure our abiltiy to feed the millions of people living in BC.
