The Dressage Page!
Welcome to the dressage page, here you can learn all kinds of
interesting facts about one of the coolest horsey sports around! Below
are a list of facts you may not know about dressage. If you have any
comments on any of them, or have something you would like to add, feel
free to e-mail us, and we will look at it, and see if we can add it
for you! All the facts are based on CEF rules and are written by
Kristen, who's horse shows recognised ('A' circut) dressage.
Dressage Facts!
1) You may not wear a double bridle until you compete in Medium 3
2) In a dressage competition you ride a test and are marked out if 10 for each movement you are required to perform
3) Above a 65% on a test is considered good
4) You aren't allowed to use a whip in Grand Prix dressage. Nor are you allowed to wear any boots on the horse, or even warm-up in draw reins at a dressage competition
5) If the horse "calls" anytime during your test, you lose marks
St. Georges and Grand Prix. There are different classes within the divisions
6) Dressage benefits all forms of horsemanship
7) There are 7 dressage divisions. BASIC,
F.E.I. PONY,
F.E.I. JUNIOR,
MEDIUM,
FEI YOUNG RIDER,
ADVANCED (which is Prix St. George and Intermediare 1) and
GRAND PRIX ( Int. 2, Grand Prix, Grand Prix Speciale)
8) To pick up your test, you must wait until the class is finished
9) The higher up in the levels you compete, the further up your horse must be in his/her frame
10) During the test, the rider is not supposed to speak to the horse, and if the judge hears you, you will get marks off
11) Germany is a world leader in dressage
12) The rider is required to wear white or off-white breetches and a black or dark navy jacket. They are also expected to wear a white shirt and stock with a pin and knee high black leather boots. However at lower level you are permitted to wear a tweed jacket.
13) There are 3 tests for each level. The A test, the B test and the C test. It is up to the show organizers to determine which test they
wish all the riders to perform. Sometimes when the show runs for over one day, the organizers will put A tests on one day, and B or C tests
on the other two, so the rider/owner can choose which one to enter in
14) The A test is easiest, then B and then C in theory, but some riderv/horse combinations will find otherwise
15) You may not show 2 different divisions on the same horse. A rider may show as many divisions as he/she wants, so long as they ride a different horse for each
