to my gallant ancestors who gave so much of themselves for
the second war of independence. May their sacrifices
and service be remembered forever.


Reigh Belton, was born Apr 1833, Rockingham Co., North Carolina. He served in Co. "A", 45th North Carolina Infantry, having enlisted in March 1862. He was captured by the enemy on 1 April 1865 at Five Forks, and sent to Point Lookout, Maryland where he stayed a prisoner of war until 23 June 1865. Reigh died on 25 Nov 1905, in Johnson City, Washington Co., Tennessee. One of his three sons, Silas Belton is my great grandfather.


Matthew G. Casey, born 22 February 1812, in Spartanburn District, South Carolina. Matthew served as a Corporal in Co. E, Forrest's Regiment of Cavalry. He was fifty years old when he enlisted. Poor eye sight forced him from the service after four months. He died on 15 November 1882, in Marion Co., Florida. Matthew's original Confederate Discharge is on file in the Florida State Archives . The eighth of his nine daughters, Sarah Alice Casey, is my great grandmother.


Leander Jack Green, was born 15 October 1836 in Bulloch Co., Georgia. He joined and served in Co. "H", 9th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, CSA, on 1 March 1862. In December 1862, he was wounded in his left arm during fighting at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia. During his convalescence, back home in Hamilton Co., Florida, Leander was busy distributing needed provisions to the homes of the widows and wives of area service men. These provisions were provided by the county. Leander died in Columbia Co., Florida on 17 July 1916. His eldest son, William Richard Green, who married Sarah Alice Casey, was my great grandfather.



Moses McKinney, born Abt 1828 ,Yancey Co., North Carolina.
Served in Co. I, 29th Regement, North Carolina Troops. He enlisted in August of 1861, serving until his death on 20 Feb 1862, in Morristown, Hamblen Co., Tennessee. Moses left a wife and five small children, one of which is my great grandmother: Margaret McKinney, who married William Hoilman.


William T. Green, born 14 April 1837 in Bulloch Co., Gerogia. Served in Co. "E", 7th Georgia Cavalry, enlisting 13 May 1862 continuously until the close of the war. He was with General Lee at the surrender at Appomattox. William married Lupina Prescott Livingston, a widow, in about 1861. William and Lupina had no children although Lupina had a daughter by her first husband.
