These are just a few pictures and facts about my very favorite dog breeds.
Most of which I
hope to own one day, really. I'd like to breed dogs in my spare time,
many of these breeds,
beautiful, some rare, most all in demand. All have wonderful personalities,
friendly, good
with children. The dogs here are just all around good dogs.
Like some more information
on any of these breeds? Think you'd like to own one, but aren't sure?
E-mail me. I study
breeds, and I'd be glad to help you out. Enjoy! I have collected
these pictures from all over
the net. If you see any that are copyrighted, please let me know
so that I may either remove
them or give credit where it is due. Thanks.

The Golden Retriever
This is a picture of my own Taffy. I've never seen or been around
better, more faithful dog.
There's nothing that I couldn't ask of her that she wouldn't do for me.
Goldens are like that.
They want to please, want to be loved. And they are absolutely wonderful
with children.
Though a puppy will be a puppy, and in it's play may become a little rough
for young children.
If looking for a children's dog, I'd definitely look in to adopting an
older golden maybe.
You'll never regret it, and you'll have a faithful companion.
Males usually measure at about 23"-24" and weigh 65-75 pounds.
Females measure 21.5"-22.5" and weigh 60-70 pounds.
The coat is dense and water repellant, with a moderate undercoat.
Some parts of the coat may be wavy. Females tend to be a bit darker
than the males. Colors ranging from light blonde to deep red with
gold
undertones. The medium coat requires daily grooming to keep it fit
and
beautiful.
Goldens love the water, and are excellant swimmers. They have a mild
personality, easy to train, and are all around wonderful family dogs.
The Saint Bernard
These dogs require time, and love. They are a quiet,
mild breed.
Most are not overly playful, and are excellant with children. They're
gentle personality has earned them the nick name of the gentle giant.
Though they do enjoy a good romp, they don't require the amount of
space that most people think, for their size. They would just as
soon
lounge and be loved as anything else. I am in love with this breed.
They are excellant with children, and have a natural protective
instinct. I would trust one of these dogs with my life.
Males must measure at least 28" They usually weigh 160-200 pounds.
Females must measure at least 26" And usually weigh 130-160 pounds.
There are both long haired and short haired coat types. I prefer
the short
hair myself. They are better suited to warmer climates.
Coloring is generally tan or red markings on the tail-tip and muzzle, with
white required on underbelly, legs, chest, neck, tail-tip and muzzle.
The
mask on the face is desireable but not required.
These dogs are very gentle and loyal with a sweet disposition.
Training should be started at a very young age.
The Rottweiler
This breed is one of my favorite. And, in my opinion, one of
the most
beautiful. I have not had too much experience with these dogs as
of yet,
but with all meetings with them, they have been pleasant and friendly.
Despite the stories of this breed's roughness and rebel personality, they
are, for the most part, undeserved. These dogs require special, gentle
handling and training. Often, if abused, they WILL turn on a person.
Though when treated with respect and love, they will return the same.
They are loving family dogs, though they should be supervised with
young children. They aren't as understanding to a child pulling on
their tail as a goldy or saint.
Their height is, for both males and females, usually around 22"-27".
The weight as well ranges within 90-110 pounds for both.
This breed requires plenty of room and exercise for them to work off
all the energy they have. They require a pretty active owner :-)
Especially
when young.
The Rottie's coat type is of medium length. Dense and flat-lying.
The body color is always black, with deep tan or mahogany markings
which accent the eyes, cheeks, muzzle, bottom of legs, and each side
of the breastbone.
The Rottweiler requires regular brushing.
Rottie's take well to obedience training at a young age.
The Newfoundland
My neighbor's son once had one of these dogs. I remember joyful romps
with
him whenever he would visit from Florida. Their personality is much
like the
Saint Bernard's. They are very intelligent, gentle, and loyal.
And they are also
very beautiful dogs. I would consider it a privilege to have this
breed grace my
home. Like the Saint, the Newfie is very mild, and doesn't require
the space that
a more active dog would. Though they should have plenty of room to
take a good
romp in, as it's not good for any dog to lay around their whole life.
You will find this breed a delight, and a loyal part of your family.
They are also
exellent with children.
The average male measures about 28" and weighs about 150 pounds.
Females measure about 26" and weigh about 120 pounds.
The Newfie's coat is water-resistant and consists of a medium-length
outer coat which is straight or slightly wavy. The undercoat is dense,
wooly, and oily, preventing water from reaching the skin.
Solid black is the traditional color for this breed, although some white
is permitted. The Landseer variety (above picture) has a predomintantly
white coat with black markings.
Regular brushing is all the grooming that's required.
This dog is a very capable swimmer, and it's uniquie characteristic is
it's
webbed feet. They have been used many times for water rescue.
And they
love the chance to swim.
They are eager, willing learners. Begin training at a young age.
Bernese Mountain Dog
This breed, also, I have not had too much experience with, but their
stories fascinate me.
They are very beautiful dogs. They prefer country living, and need
a lot of room to run.
They are wonderful family dogs. And are always very willing to learn,
very eager, and
extremely loyal. I will most definitely own one of these dogs.
I am eager to learn all
about them for myself. Sometimes, reading and research just isn't
enough to get the
experience. But from what I know of them, I think I'd recommend them
as a family dog,
and companion.
Males measure between 24.5"-27.5" and wiegh about 88 pounds.
Females measure 23"-26" and also weigh around 88 pounds.
The heavy, glistening coat of the Bernese is slightly wavy and is
of medium length. The color is always jet-black with rust and
white markings. Grooming needs are easily met since the coat
remains mat-free.
This breed is a true servant to mankind, the breed has always
been devoted, loyal, intelligent, and good-natured.
The Mastiff
This is an adorable breed. I've met them a few times, and
have always
been charmed. They are very friendly and eager to please. Their
one fault
seems to be their constant drooling in many. They are beautiful,
and very
sweet. As with many big dogs, they are good family dogs. Though
I think
that they do best as a companion to one or two rather than a whole family.
But, they do very well with children. They are very courageous and
protective. Excellent guard dogs.
I recommend this breed if you're looking for a true pal to stand by you.
The minimum height for males is 30" and weigh about 175-190 pounds.
The minimum height for females is 27.5" and they also weigh about 175-
190.
The Mastiff has a short, dense undercoat with a slightly coarse outer coat.
The Mastiff is a courageous and intelligent dog, yet gentle and biddable.
It makes a wonderful companion in a setting with a good deal of space.
And as with all dogs the are giants at maturity, training should begin
at a very young age.
The Chinese Shar-Pei
What an adorable face! How could you ever resist one of these
little beautys?
Really, I have been around a few of these dogs. I would have bought
one at
one time, had mom and dad been willing to let me pay $300. They have
a very
sweet personality. Though they are a little wary of strangers.
The breed was in
danger of extinction in the 1970's when dog lovers in China appealed to
breeders
in the states for help. Several were exported, and the breed became
very popular
and is no longer in danger. I would recommend a Shar-Pei as a family
dog and
guard dog for your home. He will need a lot of love. And he
will reward you for it.
Males and females both measure 18"-20" and weigh from
35-55 pounds. There are two coat types. The "horse" coat
and the "brush" coat. The coat is short and smooth and the
skin is looser and more wrinkled around the shoulders, neck
and head. Any solid coat color is permitted with darker shading
allowed on the ears and back. When grooming, be sure to check
and clean skin folds to avoid irritations.
The Shar-Pei is intensely loyal and devoted to, and protective of
his family. He is also smart and charming, which wins him
admirers everywhere.
Well, this is all for now. I will be adding
more breeds later. I hope you enjoyed
learning more about these beautiful dogs. Or just looking at the
pictures. These
certainly are not all of my favorites, I have many more. But these
are all on the
top of my list. A few others that I hope to add later are the Chocolate
Lab, Golden
Lab, Irish Setter, Great Dane, and the Wire-Haired Dachsund. Check
back later
to see what's new here.
