The Masquerade has been placed into
full effect. Those few who know of
a Kindred's nature will be trusted
not to disclose it. However, on
January 29, 1998 Hel__Razor declared
the Vampire Coven a special place of
Elysium, where the Masquerade will
not be in effect, in accorance with
Yriel's wishes.
History And Purpose of This Tradition
It has been said that the Masquereade has been around as long as the Kindred themselves, however, its formalization into a law or Tradition came about with the founding of the Camerilla during the Inquisition of the Catholic Church (commonly called the Spanish Inquisition). With various witch hunters stalking the supernatural of all kinds, the founders of the Camerilla agreed to impose a shroud of secrecy over the Kindred as a whole.
The purpose of this Tradition is to protect the Kindred from a massed mortal race dclaring all-out war and genocide upon the Kindred, and to protect the Kindred from the various "vampire hunters" that stalk them.
