James Cameron's TITANIC is now THE biggest blockbuster in movie history, and one which made Kate Winslet and and her co-star, Leonardo Dicaprio, two of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

Kate's passion for the part of Rose, was expressed in an article from the Entertainment Magazine:

'She loved the script and went all out to win the female lead role. "I made endless telephone calls to Cameron saying, 'please, let me show you that I think I can do this'. On one occasion, she called Cameron on his car phone. "I need to talk to him. I had to tell him I was very passionate about it I didin't beleive in holding back", she said. "Life isn't a dress rehearsal".'

After winning the part, she proved her worth and touched hearts and emotions of millions of viewers around the world, as well as gaining Academy Award nominations for Best Actress, earlier this year.

Rose DeWitt Bukater

Rose, a 17 year old, upper-class, educated American woman, trapped in the world of upper-class Edwardian society. After the death of her father many debts were left. A marriage is formally arranged with a wealthy businessman Cal in order to withold the family name. She, unwillingly travels to New York with her Mother and Cal, on Titanic's maiden voyage April 12 1912.

Whilst aboard Titanic, suffocated by a self centred upper-class world, her emotions overide her actions and she attempts to commit suicide.

"I saw my whole life as if I had already lived it. An endless parade of parties and polo mathches, always the same narrow people."

Her views on Leo

During the making of the movie Leo and Kate became very close, like brother and sister, and were able to work as a team, constantly supporting each other - "I know that I would not have been able to do any of it without leo".

"He's so beautiful and he's such a wonderful actor. I just kept thinking to myself, 'He's one of the geatest actors of this century ad I've got to have him.' But it was friendship all the way"
