Houdini's Master Mystery
A special exhibit of posters from Houdini's film serial Master Mystery
will be open at the Houdini Historical Center in Appleton, WI beginning
September 4, 1998 and will run through March 28, 1999. The collector
of these posters, Tom Boldt, is also a member of the HHC Board. Speaking
at the Houdini Club of Wisconsin's 60th annual convention in Appleton on September
4th was William H. McIlhany, film collector, expert on magic films, and
Houdini film preservationist. This exhibit is about
Houdini's movie career and features the movie serial in which he made his
American film debut in 1919. Fifteen episodes of the Master Mystery
serial were released with Houdini performing all manner of escapes in
the starring role of Quentin Locke, undercover Justice Department
trustbuster. The series featured what may be the first robot in motion
pictures. A video tape of Houdini's Master Mystery is available for sale nationally and is currently in stock at
the Houdini Historical Center.
