As some of you know I blew up my Auto tranny in my Scout on the 5 Dec at Paragon ORV Park in Hazelton, PA. I have been to almost every IH site on the web ring and found very little info on the 727's let alone how to rebuild it or where to get upgrade parts. I'll be doing a complete rebuild, including a manual/auto shift valve body, and lower gears for first and second. I'll take pictures of the project from start to finish and get them put up here. The first NAPA part # I have is for the soft rebuild kit. This includeds all the seals and snap rings and new clutches. The part number is 1-6034. You will also need to buy two rear output shaft seals. The one included in this kit is wrong for a Scout, it is for a Dodge Dart or something. The correct seal # is #17386 and you need two of them. I also bought a drain plug kit to add to the oil pan, that NAPA # is #704-1060. The plug requires you to drill a 1/2" hole in the pan. We pulled the tranny out of the truck yesterday and found that I had ingested a lot of mud into the tranny. This happened because the vent for the tranny is located behind the torque converter and has no one-way plug or anything. This sucked the mud right into the pump and pumped the PA clay all through the valve body. I finished the rebuild last night. I installed a manual/automatic valve body in it. This operates like the Dodge Autostick. If you put the tranny in D it will operate just like an automatic, however, if you use either 1 or 2 it will either start off in that gear, or will not shift out of that gear. For instance, if I'm on ice I could put it in second and start off in second to reduce wheel spin.
I have the tranny completely disassembled. I found that the mud from Paragon had gotten in every porton of the tranny, especially in the reverse/first band servo. This tore up the seal on the servo piston making downshifts to first gear impossible. The vent on the pump, ![]()
