Peterstown House
Today's roads from Cahokia, via
Dupo, Waterloo, Ranault, Fort de Chartres, Prairie du Rocher, and Modoc
roots to Kaskaskia follow the 18th century Cahokia-Kaskaskia road.
Prior to human settlement, buffalo herds created the way that was to become
the trail as they followed the highest land on the bluffs. In turn,
Indian tribes followed the buffalo trail. During the 1600's, with
European settlement, the natural trail linked Kaskaskia and Cahokia.
Peterstown House is the only remaining structure intact on the Old Kaskaskia-Cahokia
Trail in Monroe County.
