MARDI GRAS 1999!!!!!!!!

Yes it's that time of year when everyone is happy for the new year, but down South we all gear up for the party of a lifetime. *EFGFETE* It "religiously" starts on the first Sunday of January but the parades and partying don't start till 2 weeks before Ash Wednesday. If yer not familiar with this event..YA GOTTA BE!!! It's two weeks of partyin and just plain chaos. *giggles* It happens tween New Orleans,LA all the way to Pensacola, Fl. Yes I follow this "religion", and drag my lil one and niece out to the parades in whatever kinda weather to grab silly little things like plastic bead necklaces, moonpies, cups, toys, plastic roses..whatever they throw. *giggles* And to see the wildlife. *s* The lil kids in the pics are mine. *S*

Joe Cain Day!!! (Feb 14, 1999)

The Sunday before "Fat Tuesday" or Ash Wednesday is when Mobile celebrates the man who brought Mardi Gras back to the city. After the civil war, Southern Alabama was in a depression, so Joe Cain dressed up as an Indian Chief and rode horseback through donwtown Mobile, tossing treats and trinkets. Since then Mardi Gras has lived in Mobile and on this day we celebrate the man who brought the fun back. This day is a day of/for the people of Mobile.

*sniffles* Sadly Mardi Gras comes to an end February 16, 1999. *sniffles* So no more pics till Mardi Gras 2000, which is February 22, 2000!! *G*
