The man to the left is my great grandfather, Aubra W. Starkey. Please accept my apologies if this page is slow to load...he was a very tall man! Aubra (also found spelled "Aubrey" in city directories) went by the nickname "Bob". I am not sure why because I believe his middle name was William. I never knew him as he passed on about exactly 7 years before I was born. Aubra was born 29 September 1888 in Francisco, Pike County, Indiana & was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Francisco. His parents were George Starkey and Alma COSBY (or Colby). Siblings include: 1. Sherman 2. Clyde W. 3. Arthur 4. Jesse 5. Dobie 6. Mollie 7. Dora On 02 October 1909, he married Ida Pearl BRITTINGHAM in Union, Indiana. Children include: 1. Frances Alberta (my grandmother) b. 20 April 1913, Edward Co., Kansas 2. Walter Herbert (still born) 3. Earnest b. 21 Nov 1911 (drown abt. 12 yrs. old on a boyscout outing) 4. Harold b. 02 Feb 1915 5. Lorraine Adele b. 24 Nov 1921 (nicknamed "Mickey") Aubra came to Illinois in 1913 after the birth of his daughter, Frances, or possibly the following year. He came to work at the Westclox Company in Peru, Illinois. According to Peru city directories, he was a laborer in 1917-1918, worked at Illinois Zinc Company in 1919-1920, & beginning in 1926 as a buffer & plasterer at National Sheet Metal where he retired after 41 years of service. He and his wife and family moved several times when they first came to Illinois. Their first home in Illinois was on Main Street in Peru. By 1917 they had moved to Seventh Street, Peru and in 1919 to First Street, Peru. From 1926 until his death, he lived on Fruit Street in Peru. Aubra died on 11 February 1962 in St. Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley, Illinois where he was been a patient for 4 days. His burial was in Peru City Cemetary. Services were held by Krueger Memorial & the First Baptist Church of LaSalle. (LaSalle, Peru & Spring Valley are all called the Illinois Valley.)
