When Nick puts himself in front of the mirror, he sees a "pacific and sincere boy, with a great heart and that always care about the others". His family teached him to be friendly with everybody: "I never say insulting words, and I don't even think about them". But Nick also recognizes that sometimes he can be a little capricious, specially on rainy days: "There are some days that I'm not very good. When it rains or it's cloudy I don't feel happy and I start to be a little boring. My family and my friends already know that on these kind of days I'm insupportable!".
ON INTIMACY
If you show up in Nick's house, you will find him sleeping on underwear (he never uses pijama and sleeps with a t-shirt and shorts) or cooking fried fish, his fave food besides pizza, or... playing with his younger brothers' things! Ninja Turtles and his brother Aaron's Sega are his perdition. You also could find him in the bathroom taking a long bath or shaving: "I only shave once a week, but I enjoy it. Do you know, put spume, the lotion and all that stuff...". Meanwhile, Nick is not convinced. He gets lost when girls say he's cute: "I think the sexyest part of my body it's my hair". He also likes to stay at home watching T.V. with his family than get out at night to have fun: "I never got drunk. I only tried alcohol once and I didn't like it". With his parents he has total confidence and he speaks with them about every theme "except about girls, I stay with very shame...".
PRIVATE TRESORS
Nick has 2 secret tresors that he keeps in one of his room's drawers: "The first gold thread that I bought and a gold medal with BSB initials that our manager gave us. I almost never use them, because they have a special meaning to me and I'm afraid to lose them. I prefer keep them safe, because they mean much to me". Actuality, Nick is the only one from the Backstreet Boys that doesn't wear threads, rings or bracelets, because he prefers to offer this kind of stuff than buy them for himself: "I like to offer things that mean a lot to the person in question. I don't care how much does it costs, I just want it to be very special and personal". But there is one thing Nick thinks about, just for himself: "A car. But I don't have a driver's licence yet. For now, I just can dream about it...".
He is the older of the house, so his parents' sweet boy. Nick never hide his love and admiration he feels for them: "My parents are my best support. Without them I could never become what I'm now. I own everything to my parents". Truly, Jane and Robert Carter always trusted on their son's talent and since the day when Nick started dancing on his short tails in the middle of the Yankee Rebel Bar track, the club they had in Jamestown, they knew his futur was in show businness. His father, that plays keyboard since kid, transmited to Nick the music's paxion and, when all family moved to Florida, he didn't hesitated on the next step: take his son to every singing, dancing and interpretation contests. Nick rapidly got small jobs as a model and actor, but this made him lose many hours of study: "My parents never told me to get good grades. They understood that my vocation was to be an artist and they talked to my teachers to explain them mine situation". They contracted a particular teacher: "For them it was an extra expense, but they didn't want me to refuse my dream". They went with him to castings, gave him animation and conforted him when it was necessary. They became his artistical managers and his best friends. Today they still being it. Robert and Jane were always next to Nick during the long Backstreet Boys' tournées: "I couldn't stand being so much time away from them. I need their advices and kindness, without them I would fell lost", says Nick.
KINDNESS' STRENGHT
Nick's family is very united. They don't like each other... they love each other! They live in Ruskin, Florida, and Nick doesn's even think about becoming independente. When he is with his family he is great. For that he dreams with the vacations so he can go with them to Florida Keys, a pacific beach where all family does submarine fishing and walk on the boat. There is only one thing that irritates Nick: his mother's proud, because his mother always has to show photos when he was a little kid to every fan that are going to see him to his house: "It's to die with shame. The first thing my mother does when girls come here is pick up the photo album. And the worst of all is that is some of the photos I appear naked!
AARON, NICK'S PROUD
Nick has 3 sisters and 1 brother: B.J., Leslie and the twins Aaron and Angel. He is the oldest and he had to look after all of them when they were younger while their parents worked. "I'm already a nanny expert in he matter. I know how to change short tails, sing songs to rock a child...", says Nick. Now, the relation he has with all of them it's fantastic. B.J., that is almost 15 years old, is his best friend and the authoress of Nick's hair style. She, Leslie and Angel, are incondicional Backstreet Boys' fans and they go crazy when Nick let them enter on their dressing-rooms during some concert: "I think Leslie is crazy about Kevin", says Nick kidding. But Nick's proud is Aaron, his young brother. Aaron also wants to follow his brother's steps. With just 8 years old, Aaron already sing and dance as a professional. The Backstreet Boys already let him appear on stage with them in one concert in Germany! For Aaron, sing with the group was like a dream... And to Nick, was a fantastic moment, maybe the best of Nick's life: "Being with my brother on stage, and see how they claped their hands for him, was something impossible to forget. I'm very proud of him".
Nick was always a lonely boy. His first true friends were Howie and A.J., and later, Kevin and Brian. Till he meet them, Nick felt himself always alone... He changed school thousand times and, of course, he was always "the new one". But the worst was when he started to appear on some television advertisement: his colleagues, with jealous of his fame, put him aside and told him that he was pretending to be a star. The envy was so big that they also beat him, more that one time... To Nick, all that was hell, but with his family and teachers' support, he decided to face them and keep studying. He never gave up and, at the end, the others were the ones that gave up to face him, but he will never forget all the pain and solitude he felt.
THE FIRST
Nick was never really in love. That is one knife he has sticked on his heart and he dies, because he wants to take it out... But, in spite of had never met real love, Nick has already gave his first kiss. He gave it to Bryn, a girl that acted on the same theatre play as him! They got out together almost during a year but he recognizes "I wasn't really in love by her, we were just friends".
A VERY SPECIAL "GHOST"
Nick's first role was in a school's play. The name was "Opera Panthom", and he got it by luck! The main role was destinated to another guy (the most popular of the class, as Nick says) but he didn't know how to sing. The teacher made a test to Nick and, when she heard him, she didn't hesitated: he was going to be the protagonist! Nick was only 7 years old, but from that moment his career started to grow: television advertisement, singers' contests... But the most important's triumph of his career (before Backstreet Boys formation, of course) was at 11 years old, when he got a small role on the movie "Eduard, scissors' hands" and he acted side by side with Johnny Depp!
A DEAD'S FRIGHT
Nick's first memorie is when he was 4 years old: "We lived in Lutz, a small village in Florida. I was playing on mine house's swimming pool and when I came out I was a big snake next to me, read to bite me! I got so scared that I started running and screaming and then I got on the swimming pool again. Later I knew that was a poisonous snake and if she had bited me I would have passed a bad time...".
A GERMAN GRANDFATHER
Nick always felt admiration for his maternal grandfather. He and his wife were born in Germany and then they emigrated to U.S.A.. Nick feels very proud of his european roots and says that his blue eyes and blond hair are hereditary from his grandfather. He teached him a little of german and Nick got interrested on idioms.
