EXAMPLES OF AMERICA’S WRONGS

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Extremely Merciful.

By

Afdal al-Jihad

Why do they hate America? Why do many consider the U.S to be a rogue state? Why do many consider the U.S. to be a source for and sponsor of worldwide terrorism and evil? Hopefully, the following presentation will partially answer those questions. This is a documentation of statements and actions, which indicate why the U.S. lacks credibility, integrity and moral authority (cima). It is a source for dates, figures and references revealing America’s practice of arrogance, greed, murder, broken agreements, lies, hypocrisy, vilification, ethnic cleansing and support for injustice.

I. Arrogance (Shows A Lack of Moral Authority)

Allah, the Exalted, condemns Arrogance. Concerning racial superiority Allah, the Exalted has said: "Oh you who believe! A people must not ridicule another people, for it may be that they are better than them" (al-Qur'an, 49:11). "Oh people! We created you from a male and a female and We made you into races and tribes so that you may recognize each other. The most honorable of you in the opinion of Allah is the most God-fearing of you" (al-Qur'an, 49:13).

Concerning arrogance and ignorance, Allah, the Exalted, has said: "When it was said to them: 'Do not corrupt the earth.' They said: 'We are only making things better.' On the contrary, they certainly are corrupters, but they do not realize it" (al-Qur'an, 2:11-12).

Every soldier on foreign soil without the consent of that country’s people and leaders should heed the words of Allah, the Exalted, Who says to the oppressed: "Fight them wherever you find them and drive them out from where they drove you out! Civil disorder is worse than killing and being killed" (al-Qur'an 2:191).

"How many small groups have defeated a large group with the permission of Allah. Allah is with those who persevere" (al-Qur'an 2:249).

Every country concerned with national security should heed these words, "And those who call Our verses and signs a lie, We shall take them gradually from positions they do not know" (al-Qur'an 7:183).

"He is Able to send on you a punishment from above you (like tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, fires), or from beneath your feet (like earthquakes, floods), or cover you with factions (differing with each other according to their own desires), and make you taste each other's harshness (in fighting). Observe how We alternate the signs, hopefully they will understand (that what they are following is false)" (al-Qur'an 6:65).

Let Me deal with such as belie this Qur'an. We shall punish them gradually from directions they perceive not (al-Qur'an 68:44).

America’s Response:

"The Negroes are of barbarous, wild, savage natures, and . . . wholly unqualified to be governed by the laws, customs, and practices of this province" (South Carolina's code of 1712).

"A free African population is a curse to any country. . . . This race, . . . in a state of freedom, and in the midst of a civilized community, are a dead weight to the progress of improvement" (The Chancellor of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, 1840's).

In a speech to Congress to justify the "Acquisition of Territory" from Mexico by force, Senator D. S. Dickinson of New York said, "The national existence of Mexico is in her own keeping, but is more endangered at this time by her own imbecility and stubbornness--her national ignorance and brutality--than from the war we are prosecuting and all its consequences. . . . The policy of extending our jurisdiction over any portion of Mexican territory, is a question between Europe and America . . ." (January 12, 1848).

"There is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality" (President Abraham Lincoln in speech 7/17/58).

5. In his 1858 debate with Stephen Douglas, Abraham Lincoln said: "And inasmuch as they [blacks and whites] cannot so live [together on terms of social and political equality], while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."

"It is vain to deny that they (Africans) are an inferior race--very far inferior to the European variety" (President Andrew Johnson in veto 1867).

On 12/13/67, in his third annual message, President Andrew Johnson said: "The great difference between the two races in physical, mental and moral characteristics will prevent an amalgamation or fusion of them together in one homogeneous mass. If the inferior obtains the ascendancy, it will govern with reference only to its own interests."

The arrogance of President Ulysses S. Grant's support for the American policy of civilizing the Native Americans apparently escaped him. He acknowledged the mistreatment of the Native Americans while still regarding the abusers as more civilized. He said, "Our superiority of strength and advantages of civilization should make us lenient toward the Indian. The wrong inflicted upon him should be taken into account and the balance placed to his credit. The moral view of the question should be considered and the question asked, Can not the Indian be made a useful and productive member of society by proper teaching and treatment? If the effort is made in good faith, we will stand better before the civilized nations of the earth and in our own consciences for having made it." (Second Inaugural Address, Tuesday, March 4, 1873).

Concerning the Chinese, President James A. Garfield said: "They have no assimilation whatever to Caucasian civilization. The Negro assimilates with the Caucasian. He wants all that we want. He adopts our civilization . . . hence we can take him up in the circulation of the body politic and assimilate him--make a man and brother of him, as the phrase goes; but not so in the least degree with the Chinaman" (an interview given to the Wheeling, W. Va. Intelligencer, 12/5/77).

10. In the Oct. 1, 1889 "Report of the Commissioner on Indian Affairs," the Commissioner was blunt. He wrote, "The Indian must conform to the white man's ways, peaceably if they will, forcibly if they must. This civilization may not be the best possible, but it is the best the Indians can get. They cannot escape and must either conform or be crushed by it."

After China's emperors and its armies could not stop Europeans from invading and occupying their territory in order to secure material gain, in 1899 Secretary of State John Hay sought to insure that America would get their piece of the China pie. When the common people fought the invasion, President William McKinnley wrote in the Annual Message of the President to the Senate and House concerning the Chinese who opposed occupation, that they did so because they were "a primitive people which had pursued for centuries a national policy of isolation" (12/3/1900).

President Theodore Roosevelt in his First Annual Message, on 12/3/01, said: "It is no light task for a nation to achieve the temperamental qualities without which the institutions of free government are but an empty mocker. . . . What has taken us thirty generations to achieve we cannot expect another race to accomplish out of hand, especially when a large portion of that race start very far behind the point which our ancestors had reached even thirty generations ago."

Both U.S. Ambassador Timberlake and Burden believed the Congolese incapable of ruling themselves because they elected the pro-Africa leader, Patrice Lumumba, Prime Minister of the Congo. Timberlake telegraphed the State Department in 11/60 that "the fact is that the Congo is years from more than a facade of democracy." Not one Congolese understood "even the most elementary principles of democracy." With CIA involvement, Lumumba was assassinated on 1/17/1961.

Under-Secretary of State Thomas Mann in a speech June 1964, said in reference to the Marine interventions in the Caribbean under Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson: "Our interventions were, in the Latin American point of view, patronizing in the extreme. By making the United States the sole judge of Latin America's political morality, they were degrading to proud peoples who believed that, in their own wars of independence, they had earned the right to manage their own affairs - to be masters in their own houses."

America Must Repent!

One of the root causes of America’s greed, murder, broken agreements, lies, ethnic cleansing and support for injustice is its arrogance. It allows them to use double standards in treating other people. In order to repent of its crimes and evil behavior, it must first rid itself of its arrogant mindset and views.

II. Greed (Results In A Lack of Moral Authority)

Material gain in moderation and acquired justly is not an evil. Acquiring it in excess and at the expense of harming others is evil. Concerning this, Allah, the Exalted, has said: "Had there only been among the generations before you, people possessing some religiosity, who prohibited corruption in the earth--however only a few of them did so, these We saved. But those who mistreated others (with their corruption and lack of prohibiting it) pursued luxurious and opulent lives while harming others. Your Lord does not destroy a locale because of its wrong-doings while its people are trying to correct wrongs" (al-Qur'an 11:116-117).

America’s Response:

“Around 1805, Chief Tecumseh of the Shawnees preached that, "unless every tribe unanimously combines to give check to the ambition and avarice [greed] of the whites, they will soon conquer us apart and disunited" (The Indian Wars, D. Nardo, 37).

In 1810, General William Henry Harrison, a future president, expressed his support for confiscating Indian land, "Is one of the fairest portions of the globe to remain in a state of nature, the haunt of a few wretched savages, when it seems destined, by the Creator to give support to a large population, and to be the sea of civilization, of science, and true religion?" (The Patriot Chiefs, A. Josephy, 157).

The Farmer's Journal voiced the objectives for enslaving kidnapped Africans, "For what purpose does the master hold the servant?" asked an ante-bellum Southerner. "Is it not that by his labor he, the master, may accumulate wealth?" (Farmer's Journal, II, 1853, p. 52)

In 1877, Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce nation observed, "I see the whites all over the country gaining wealth, and see their desire to give us lands which are worthless, " (The Indian Wars, D. Nardo, 115).

5. Concerning justification for invading the Philippines, President McKinley said in 1897 in Philadelphia: "No worthier cause [than] the expansion of trade . . . can engage our energies at this hour" (Senate Report 681, 56th Congress, 2nd Session, pp. 65-7). The New York Tribune wrote: "The (1898 Spanish-American) War in which we intervened was pre-eminently an economical war, provoked by commercial, financial and industrial forces" (New York Tribune, March 23, 1902).

In February, 1953, the elected President of Guatemala, Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, nationalized 400,000 acres of land belonging to the United Fruit Company. After refusing to accept the compensation he offered, the American company enlisted the aid of U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and his brother, CIA Director Allen Dulles. After a CIA sponsored invasion, President Arbenz resigned on 6/27/54 and fled the country with his economic advisor Che Guevara.

To President Eisenhower's displeasure, Jose Antonio Remon, President of Panama, apparently had raised last-minute roadblocks to ratifying the recently negotiated Canal Zone treaty. The White House decided the treaty would go forward, with or without Remon. To this end, according to CIA agent Marion Cooper, Vice President Richard M. Nixon met with a group of Panamanians in Honduras on January 1, 1955. The group included the men hired to assassinate Remon (The Judas Factor, 58).

Before and after the election of Allende to the presidency of Chile in 9/70, ITT Director John McCone, himself a former head of the CIA, the American-owned Kennecott Copper Company, Anaconda, and the CIA sponsored worker strikes, blocked Chilean copper sales and loans from international credit agencies in order to wreck Chile's economy. On 9/11/73, President Allende was assassinated by the American supported Junta of General Pinochet.

A representative of the State Department explains why America should not attempt to isolate China. He remarked, "But we can't create jobs if foreign markets are not open. . . . As the President argued last night, American leadership is crucial to advancing our economic interests abroad . . ." (Address by James B. Steinberg, Director of Policy Planning, U. S. Department of State to the Foreign Policy Association, New York City, January 24, 1996).

10. “During the 1990s, one U.S. citizen was consuming 30 times what one citizen of India did; developed nations were 20% of the world's population yet used two-thirds of all resources and generated 75% of the world's pollution and waste. (1) World consumption patterns were undermining the environmental resource base.” (See Consumption & Resources, September 1999, C:\My Documents\Consumption & Resources.htm).

America Must Repent!

America’s crime is not having a high standard of living and wealth. Its crime is the means by which it has obtained its wealth and maintains it. It must repent and cease relying on murder, broken agreements, lies and support for injustice to maintain it.

III. Murder (Causes A Lack of Moral Authority)

Concerning murders and ethnic cleansing, Allah, the Exalted, has said: "Do not shed each others blood and do not drive each other from your homes" (al-Qur'an 2:84).

Every soldier on foreign soil without the consent of that country’s people or leaders should heed the words of Allah, the Exalted, Who says to the oppressed: "Fight them wherever you find them and drive them out from where they drove you out! Civil disorder is worse than killing and being killed" (al-Qur'an 2:191).

"How many small groups have defeated a large group with the permission of Allah. Allah is with those who persevere" (al-Qur'an 2:249).

America’s Response:

The Native American population has been reduced from about 10 million to about 2 million (Microsoft (R) Encarta, 1994; 1990 US Census)--a 20% survival rate. Some estimate that in the 1600s there were more than 2 million native Americans in America. By 1890, there was less than 250,000 (The Indian Wars, D. Nardo, 114)--a 12.5% survival rate. This was genocide.

From 1480 to 1880 about 14-21 million Africans were taken from Africa and shipped to America. About 4-6 million died in transit.

On 4/25/59 Tuskegee Institute announced that 4,733 blacks had been lynched by mobs since 1882.

The American policy of vilification, lies and hypocrisy set the stage for the killing of "some 16,000 to 20,000 Filipino soldiers were killed. Estimates of the number of civilians who were killed or died from war-related causes range from 200,000 to 600,000" (The War from a Parlor: Introduction, By Jim Zwick, Syracuse University; http://www.accinet.net/~fjzwick/ail98-35.html ([December 1995]). Among those massacred were 17,000 inhabitants of Caloocan in 1899 and 900 Muslim Filipinos in March, 1906.

5. Concerning the Moro (Muslim) massacre Moorfield Storey wrote, "No prisoners were taken. No wounded remained alive when the conflict was over and 600 human beings were slain without mercy. Not even women and children in the villages were spared. Every American must regret deeply when any of our brave countrymen are killed or wounded, but that regret must be far greater when they are sent to their deaths for such work as this. . . . The spirit which slaughters brown men in Jolo is the spirit which lynches black men in the South. When such crimes go unpunished, far more when the men who commit them are praised and rewarded, the youth of the country is taught an evil lesson" [Preferred citation: Storey, Moorfield. "The Moro Massacre." (Boston: Anti-Imperialist League, n.d. (1906); http://www.accinet.net/~fjzwick/moro/moromass.html In Jim Zwick, ed., Anti-Imperialism in the United States, 1898-1935. http://www.accinet.net/~fjzwick/ail98-35.html (December 1995)]. The massacres in Vietnam and continued killing Asians and Africans prove that the evil lessons were never learned.

From May 31 to June 1, 1921 killed 200-300 African-Americans in Tulsa, Oklahoma, burned 1200 homes and left 10,000 people homeless without compensation or earthly retribution.

What do you call a people of who in 1945 became the first people in the history of mankind to use atomic bombs, and thereby knowingly and purposely kill some 240,000 Japanese—including the elderly, women and children in Hiroshima and in Nagasaki? Never in the history of the human race—before or since—has so few people slaughtered so many people in so few days and at such a safe distance.

Most historians now agree that the CIA-sponsored military coup in 1954 was the poison arrow that pierced the heart of Guatemala's young democracy. Code-named "PBSUCCESS," the covert operation overthrew Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, the second legally elected president in Guatemalan history.
Over the next four decades, a succession of military rulers would wage counter-insurgency warfare that also would shred the fabric of Guatemalan society. The violence caused the deaths and disappearances of more than 140,000 Guatemalans. Some human rights activists put the death toll as high as 250,000. (See Guatemala -- 1954: Behind the CIA's Coup By Kate Doyle, http://www.consortiumnews.com/archive/story38.html)

The police-military apparatus responsible for the assassinations, disappearances and endemic police killings that have plagued the Caribbean country for decades is, in the final analysis, the creation of the Pentagon and the CIA. From the 1965 invasion, Washington fashioned a state that would defend US domination of the country's economy and maintain the subjugation of the working class. Massive amounts of military aid, together with military and police advisers, followed the US soldiers and Marines who occupied the island, while CIA operatives like Mitrione prepared the lists that were given to the death squads.

During the high-point of the repression under Balaguer in the early 1970s it is estimated that the death squads murdered more than 2,000 workers, students and intellectuals. (See Dominican death squad sentenced in '75 murder By Tomas Rodriguez, 23 August 2000, http://www.wsws.org/articles/2000/aug2000/domi-a23.shtml)

10. Though the CIA deny it, America’s support of Pinochet after his overthrow of the elected president Chile, Salvador Allende, indicate that they supported his coup. “The secret government files on Chile . . . will show how, in the months and years following the 1973 coup, Kissinger covered up U.S. information about atrocities in Chile and sought to persuade Pinochet that the U.S. government did not consider his behavior a major problem.” (See Kissinger Encouraged Chile's Brutal Repression, New Documents Show, by Lucy Komisar, http://www.monitor.net/monitor/ 9903a/kissingerchile.html). "According to figures given by the military regime and registered by the Vicaria de la Solidaridad, between 1973 and 1975 there were 42,486 political detentions. Also, according to the Vicaria, between 1976 to 1988, 12,134 people were individually arrested for political reasons and 26,431 collective arrests took place. Between 1977 to 1988 4,134 persons were threatened or harassed, 1,008 were victims of forced disappearance and 2,100 people died for political reasons." (Estado, Poder, Persona, Vol. II, CODEPU, 1995)

The CIA supported a 1965 coup attempt in Indonesia and supplied names in the murder of between 500,000 and 1 million Indonesians. (See Indonesia 1965 Liquidating President Sukarno ... and 500,000 others excerpted from the book Killing Hope by William Blum, http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/ Killing_Hope/Indonesia65_KH.html).

In 1975 Indonesia invaded the former Portuguese colony of East Timor, which lies at the eastern end of the Indonesian archipelago and which had proclaimed its independence after Portugal relinquished control. It was the beginning of a massacre that continues into the 1990s. By 1989, Amnesty International estimated that Indonesian troops, with the aim of forcibly annexing East Timor, had killed 200,000 people out of a population of between 600,000 and 700,000.

Ford gave his tacit approval on December 6,1975... Five days after the invasion, the United Nations voted to condemn the attack as an arrant act of international aggression. The United States abstained. Thereafter, the U.S. delegate maneuvered behind the scenes to resist U.N. moves aimed at forcing Indonesia to give up its conquest.' (See East Timor 1975 And 200,000 more excerpted from the book Killing Hope by William Blum, http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blum/ EastTimor_KH.html).

Then the American big guns began to arrive in 1982, along with the air power, the landing strips, the docks, the radar stations, the communications centers, built under the cover of repeated joint US-Honduran military exercises, while thousands of contras were training in Florida and California.

In November 1984, the Nicaraguan government announced that since 1981 the contras had assassinated 910 state officials and killed 8,000 civilians. (See Nicaragua 1981-1990, Destabilization in slow motion excerpted from the book Killing Hope by William Blum, http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blum/ Nicaragua_KH.html).

Years later, the New York Times noted:

"In El Salvador, American aid was used for police training in the 1950's and 1960's and many officers in the three branches of the police later became leaders of the right-wing death squads that killed tens of thousands of people in the late 1970's and early 1980's."

The CIA and the US military played an essential role in the conception and organization of the security agencies from which the death squads emanated. CIA surveillance programs routinely supplied these agencies with information on, and the whereabouts of, various individuals who wound up as death squad victims. (See El Salvador 1980-1994, Human rights, Washington style excerpted from the book Killing Hope by William Blum, http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blum/ ElSalvador_KH.html).

15. The United States was directly involved in the civil war to a marked degree. In addition to training Angolan combat units, US personnel did considerable flying between Zaire and Angola carrying out reconnaissance and supply missions, and the CIA spent over a million dollars on an ambitious mercenary program

The war-which had taken more than 300,000 lives-was still raging in 1994, continuing to produce widespread hunger and what is said to be the highest amputee rate in the world, caused by the innumerable land mines. (See Angola 1975 to 1980s, The Great Powers Poker Game excerpted from the book Killing Hope by William Blum, http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blum/Angola_KH.html).

Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah in Beirut was alleged to have ordered the bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Lebanon where more than 200 soldiers died, as well as being involved in the kidnapping and murder of the CIA chief of station in Beirut. President Reagan — acting on the advice of his chief terrorism advisor, then-vice president George Bush — ordered the CIA to undertake preemptive strikes and retaliatory strikes against Fadlallah and other guerrilla leaders. The CIA hired local talent, so to speak, to carry out these strikes. That way the Agency maintained some deniability — not much, but enough to avoid direct responsibility for assassinations and similar crimes. They established anti-terror murder teams in at least five countries during 1984-85, including in Lebanon.

In Beirut, the Agency hired Christian phalangist political police to kill Fadlallah. The phalangists, in turn, built a powerful car bomb, then detonated it in front of the office building where Fadlallah was said to have his headquarters. The bomb blew down the whole front of the office building, killing at least 80 people. Fadlallah escaped unharmed. At least 41 of those killed were girls under 14 years old and their teachers at a girl’s school directly across the street from where the bomb was set. (See The Science of Coercion: Shaping Consensus for America's New War, an interview conducteby the Guerilla News Network'Stephen Marswith Christopher Simpson, an author and professor at American University, Washington D.C., Transcription provided by Lisa Hsu. Angelina de Caracena , Chicago, IL, USA).

“I had not been that shocked and horrified since January 16, 1991, when then President Bush attacked Baghdad, and the rest of Iraq and began killing 200,000 people during that "war" (slaughter). This includes the infamous "highway of death" in the last days of the slaughter when U.S. pilots literally shot in the back retreating Iraqi civilians and soldiers. . . . Colin Powell is an unrepentant participant in the Vietnam War, the terrorist contra war against Nicaragua, and the Gulf war, at each level becoming more responsible for the planning and execution of the policies.” (From Larry Mosqueda, Ph.D., The Evergreen State College, September 15, 2001).

Here is the transcript of the interview of America's Jewish Secretary of State with Leslie Stahl of CBS on May 11, 1996:

Lesley Stahl, speaking of US sanctions against Iraq: "We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And -- and you know, is the price worth it?"
Madeline Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price -- we think the price is worth it."

America Must Repent!

Engaging in and supporting murder and mass murder is a result of American arrogance and greed. It must repent by showing remorse, stop its participation in and support for murders, pledge not to repeat it and compensate the families of its victims.

IV. Broken agreements (Causes A Lack of Credibility, Integrity, Moral Authority)

Concerning injustice, Allah, the Exalted, has said: "Fulfill your agreements, indeed an agreement is something you will be questioned about" (al-Qur'an 17:34).

America’s Response:

Before deciding to fight the Americans in 1812, Chief Black Hawk of the Sauks exclaimed that he had not, "discovered one good trait in the character of the Americans who had come to the country. They made fair promises, but never fulfilled them" (Great Indian Chiefs, A. Britt, 176).

In 1832 the Supreme Court ruled that, "the Cherokee Nation, then, is a distinct community, occupying its own territory . . . , and which the citizens of Georgia have no right to enter, but with the assent of the Cherokees themselves . . ." "President Jackson retorted to the Court: "John Marshall (the Chief Justice) has rendered [made] his decision; now let them enforce it" (Our Racist Presidents, M. Steinfeld, 81). The lie was that the government could be trusted.

After being misled about the articles of the 1868 treaty between the Sioux and the U.S., Chief Red Cloud stated, "I signed a treaty of peace, but it was not this treaty. This one is all lies" (Indian Chiefs, R. Freedman, 25).

In 1868, Chief Washakie of the Shoshoni signed a treaty guaranteeing that whites and other native nations would not be put on Shoshoni lands. When the government violated that stipulation, Chief Washakie stated, "the government does not keep its word!" (Indian Chiefs, R. Freedman, 87).

America Must Repent!

America must honor its agreements—excluding agreements to engage in unjust practices—and compensate those who have incurred losses due to America’s violation of those agreements. Only then when it have repented.

V. Lies (Shows A Lack of Credibility, Integrity, Moral Authority)

Concerning lying, Allah, the Exalted, says: "Verily Allah guides not one who is a musrif (a polytheist, or a murderer who sheds blood without a right, or those who commit great sins, oppressor, transgressor), a liar!" (al-Qur'an 40:28).

America’s Response:

On March 5, 1821 President James Monroe said in his Second Inaugural Address: President Chester A. Arthur wrote in the Annual Message of the President to the Senate and House, "it is confidently hoped that serious outbreaks will not again occur and that the Indian tribes which have far so many years disturbed the West will hereafter remain in peaceable submission" (12/4/1883). Thus, he revealed the government's true concern, "submission."

President James Buchanan's Inaugural Address is deplete with lies. He stated, "It is our glory that whilst other nations have extended their dominions by the sword we have never acquired any territory except by fair purchase or, as in the case of Texas, by the voluntary determination of a brave, kindred, and independent people to blend their destinies with our own" (March 4, 1857).

"Their sovereignty over vast territories should cease . . . and for the territory thus ceded by each tribe some reasonable equivalent should be granted . . . ." In 1877, Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce nation observed, "I see the whites all over the country gaining wealth, and see their desire to give us lands which are worthless, " (The Indian Wars, D. Nardo, 115). In that same year Chief Joseph added, "When will the white men learn to tell the truth?" (Indian Chiefs, R. Freedman, 109).

The explosion of the USS Maine in Havana harbor on February 15, 1898 was used as a pretext to start a war with Spain. There was no evidence of sabotage. During that war they occupied the Philippines and annexed Hawaii. Their battle cry was “Remember the Maine.” (See Fake Terror - The Road to Dictatorship, Copyright 2001 by Michael Rivero, Veritas News Service - Exclusive, September 24, 2001 ). We say “Remember the Lies.”

5. Documents shows that the U.S. knew that a Japanese fleet was headed towards Pearl Harbor, did not inform the Pearl Harbor commander and did nothing to prevent the attack of Pearl Harbor. (See Fake Terror - The Road to Dictatorship, Copyright 2001 by Michael Rivero, Veritas News Service - Exclusive, September 24, 2001 ).

While relying on false reports that the USS Maddox was attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin on August 5, 1964, President Lyndon Johnson began air strikes against North Vietnam in retaliation. (See Fake Terror - The Road to Dictatorship, Copyright 2001 by Michael Rivero, Veritas News Service - Exclusive, September 24, 2001 ).

The United States was directly involved in the civil war to a marked degree. In addition to training Angolan combat units, US personnel did considerable flying between Zaire and Angola carrying out reconnaissance and supply missions, and the CIA spent over a million dollars on an ambitious mercenary program.Subsequently,

During the Angolan civil war, “Secretary of State Henry Kissinger informed the Senate that ‘the CIA is not involved’ in the recruitment of mercenaries for Angola.” He did so knowing that the CIA was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a mercenary program for Angola, was supplying one side with US personnel to fly reconnaissance and supply missions and recruited journalists to write false reports.

“One CIA story, announced to the press by UNITA, was that 20 Russians and 35 Cubans had been captured. Another fabrication concerned alleged rapes committed by Cuban soldiers in Angola, this was elaborated to include their capture, trial, and execution, complete with photos of the young women killing the Cubans who had raped them.” (See Angola 1975 to 1980s, The Great Powers Poker Game excerpted from the book Killing Hope by William Blum, http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blum/Angola_KH.html).

The U.S. encouraged Kuwait to pump oil from a disputed oil field near or in Iraq and afterwards gave Saddam Hussein the green light to invade Kuwait. “In a July 25, 1990 meeting with U.S. ambassador April Glaspie, Saddam Hussein was informed, ‘We have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait.’ Meanwhile, the U.S. encouraged Kuwait to continue its slant drilling into Iraqi oil fields. On August 2, 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait.” President Bush in efforts to garner American public opinion for a war first stated that it would be to bring democracy to Kuwait—it hasn’t happened. Then he used a lie that Iraqi troops had removed 300 babies from hospital incubators. It was staged with the help of Hill and Knowlton, a large public relations firm and "Nayirah," an alleged refugee, who was the daughter of Saud al-Sabah, Kuwait's ambassador to the United States. 10. Coincident with the expected public statement of Monica Lewinsky following her testimony, Bill Clinton ordered a cruise missile attack on Sudan and Afghanistan, claiming to have had irrefutable proof that bogeyman extraordinaire (and former Afghani ally) Osama Bin Ladin was creating terrorist chemical weapons there.

Examination of the photos of the debris revealed none of the expected structures one would find in a laboratory that handled lethal weapons-grade materials. Assurances from the CIA that they had a positive soil test for biological weapons fell on their face when it was revealed that there had been no open soil anywhere near the pre-bombed facility. Sudan requested that international observers come test the remains of the factory for any signs of the nerve gas Clinton had insisted was there. None was found. The Sudanese plant was a harmless aspirin factory, and the owner has sued for damages. The administration has many reasons for participating in a war in Afganistan.

++The policy of imperial credibility, carried to such destructive extremes in Vietnam. In perhaps the last five years of direct U.S. involvement there, the goal was not to “win,” but to inflict such a price on Vietnam that other nations would not think of crossing the United States.

++The oil and natural gas of central Asia, the next Middle East. Afghanistan’s location between the Caspian basin and huge markets in Japan, China and the Indian subcontinent gives it critical importance. A U.S-controlled client state in Afghanistan, presumably under the exiled octogenarian former king, Zahir Shah, would give U.S. corporations great leverage over those resources. Just as in the Middle East, the United States does not seek to own all those resources, but it wants to dictate the manner in which the wells and pipelines are developed and used.

++The potential to push a radical right-wing domestic agenda. War makes it easier to expand police powers, restrict civil liberties, and increase the military budget.

This war is about the extension of U.S. power. It has little to do with bringing the terrorists to justice, or with vengeance. Judging from initial polls, the war has been popular as the administration trades on people’s desire for revenge -- but we should hardly confuse the emotional reaction of the public with the motivation of the administration. Governments do not feel emotions. (See Rahul Mahajan serves on the National Board of Peace Action. Robert Jensen is a professor of journalism at the University of Texas. America Must Repent!

Before America can begin to claim any credibility, it must acknowledge its lies, refrain from lying in the future and compensate those harmed by its lies. In other words, it must repent.

VI. Hypocrisy (Demonstrates A Lack of Credibility, Integrity, Moral Authority)

Concerning injustice and hypocrisy, Allah, the Exalted, has said: "Woe to those who give less than what is due. When they receive measure from people, they demand everything that is due them. When they measure the volume or weight due others, they do not give all that is due them" (al-Qur'an 83:1-2) and "It is enormously despicable in the opinion of Allah that you say that which you do not do" (al-Qur'an 61:3).

America’s Response:

In a letter, President Thomas Jefferson revealed the treatment of the Native Americans would actually be based on fear and not justice: "The want of [attention to the rights of Indians] is a principal source of dishonor to the American character. The two principles on which our conduct towards the Indians should be founded, are justice and fear. After the injuries we have done them, they cannot love us, which leaves us no alternative but that of fear to keep them from attacking us. But justice is what we should never lose sight of, and in time it may recover their esteem." (Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Hawkins, 1786. ME 5:390).

American propaganda about supporting democracy was a lie and their lack of support for it was hypocrisy. In 1951, Mohammed Mossadegh was democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran. Due to his socialist economic philosophy, in August, 1953, the CIA engineered a coup and reinstated the Shah as an authoritarian ruler. The Shah was responsible for 30 years of corruption and repression and the embezzlement of over $2.5 billion.

President John F. Kennedy was ready to start a nuclear war with the Soviet Union for having nuclear weapons too close to the U.S. in Cuba even though the U.S. had put them close to the Soviet Union in Turkey. (See Address on the floor of the House by Representative Ron Paul, Texas, September 25, 2001).

5. Why shouldn't US policy towards Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction be seen as hypocritical, capricious and arbitrary since: (1) Iraq used CB weapons against Iran and the Kurds without being sanctioned; (2) Israel has nuclear weapons and has the lack of humanity to use them, refuses to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to allow inspections; (3) Israel is a threat to the security of its neighbors in that it invades them, sends assassination squads into them and has the military capability and will to deliver nuclear weapons to countries ranging from Morocco to Pakistan; and (4) Israel does not comply with UN resolutions?

If the United States can bomb the Afghanistan headquarters of Osama bin Laden, who allegedly had masterminded terrorist actions against the U.S., then can not Cuba do the same to the offices of Cuban exiles in Miami, guilty of hundreds of terrorist acts against the Castro government? Can not Cuba bomb CIA headquarters? Using the same argument of self-defense that Washington uses of course. See written November 8, 1998, The bombings of the U.S. embassies, Afghanistan and Sudan, and the war on terrorism by William Blum, http://members.aol.com/ bblum6/ American_holocaust.htm).

In November 1984, the Nicaraguan government announced that since 1981 the contras had assassinated 910 state officials and killed 8,000 civilians. The analogy is inescapable: if Nicaragua had been Israel, and the contras the PLO, the Sandinistas would have long before made a lightning bombing raid on the bases in Honduras and wiped them out completely. The United States would have tacitly approved the action, the Soviet Union would have condemned it but done nothing, the rest of the world would have raised their eyebrows, and that would have been the end of it. (See Nicaragua 1981-1990, Destabilization in slow motion excerpted from the book Killing Hope by William Blum, http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blum/ Nicaragua_KH.html).

America Must Repent!

American double standards stem from its racial arrogance. This sort of mindset and behavior can never be accepted. America must acknowledge its negativity, disavow it and desist from using it. Only then will it show repentance and gain some credibility.

VII. Vilification (Demonization) (Reflects A Lack of Credibility)

Allah, the Exalted, condemns Arroganc. Concerning racial superiority Allah, the Exalted has said: "Oh you who believe! A people must not ridicule another people, for it maybe that they are better than them" (al-Qur'an, 49:11).

"Oh people! We created you from a male and a female and We made you into races and tribes so that you may recognize each other. The most honorable of you in the opinion of Allah is the most God-fearing of you" (al-Qur'an, 49:13).

America’s Response:

Vilification was a common method which government policy makers used to shape public opinion and justify their inhumane, barbaric, uncivilized treatment of their victims. In brief, in regards to Native Americans, this policy was to convince the public that the European immigrants were the people of civilization, science and true religion, and so were more deserving of life and land than uncivilized native savages.

In 1810, General William Henry Harrison, a future president, referred to Native Americans as "a few wretched savages" lacking "civilization," "science," and "true religion" (The Patriot Chiefs, A. Josephy, 157). President Andrew Jackson called them "a few thousand savages" and insinuated that they were an unhappy people lacking "the blessings of liberty, civilization, and religion" (Andrew Jackson, Second State of Nation, Washington, DC, 1830-12-06).

The defenders of justice, the American legal system declared, "The Negroes are of barbarous, wild, savage natures, and . . . wholly unqualified to be governed by the laws, customs, and practices of this province" (South Carolina's code of 1712). "A free African population is a curse to any country. . . . This race, . . . in a state of freedom, and in the midst of a civilized community, are a dead weight to the progress of improvement" (The Chancellor of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, 1840's).

"According to Dr. Cartwright, there was a second disease peculiar to Negroes which he called Drapetomania: 'the disease causing [slaves] to run away.' Cartwright believed that it was a 'disease of the mind' and that with 'proper medical advice' it could be cured" (The Peculiar Institution, 109).

Lumumba told the members of the Chamber and the Senate: "that everything in Africa that is done for the people is called Communism by the imperialists" (State Dept. "Policy Paper," 1/25/61, pp. 36-7).

5. President Allende himself said to Niedergang in 1970: "The American press immediately labeled me a Marxist. The barb is plain, as is the poison. . . . We are not going to set up a Marxist government. That is senseless." Allende was assassinated with CIA help on 9/11/73 (Disaster in Chile, 28).

America Must Repent!

America’s use of vilification and demonization also are derived from its racial arrogance. Repentance from it is required just as repentance from lying. Repentance is the key to gaining some credibility and moral authority.

VIII. Ethnic Cleansing (Produces A Lack of Moral Authority)

Concerning murders and ethnic cleansing, Allah, the Exalted, has said: "Do not shed each others blood and do not drive each other from your homes" (al-Qur'an 2:84).

America’s Response:

President Andrew Jackson said in keeping with the policy of Thomas Jefferson: "Fellow Citizens of the Senate and House of Representatives: It gives me pleasure to announce to Congress that the benevolent policy of the Government, steadily pursued for nearly 30 years, in relation to the removal of the Indians beyond the white settlements is approaching to a happy consummation." He continued, "What good man would prefer a country covered with forests and ranged by a few thousand savages to our extensive Republic, studded with cities, towns, and prosperous farms, embellished with all the improvements which art can devise or industry execute, occupied by more than 12,000,000 happy people, and filled with all the blessings of liberty, civilization, and religion?" (Andrew Jackson, Second State of Nation, Washington, DC, 1830/12/06).

In a Report . . . to Civil Service . . . in 1893, President Theodore Roosevelt was also blunt. He wrote: "It is nonsense to talk about our having driven most of these Indians out of their lands. They did not own the land at all in the white sense, they merely occupied it as the white buffalo hunter did."

The Native Americans have gone from inhabiting all of N. America to inhabiting 149 designated, obscure land areas (Indian Land Areas Judicially Established, 1978). This was ethnic cleansing.

The few townships established by free and escaped Africans were destroyed, such as, Fort Moosa in St. Augustine, Florida in 1738 and the Negro Fort in Florida in 1816.

5. In the 17th century in the North Carolina and in 18th century in Tennessee, hundreds of Berber, Moors, and Turks from Portugal and Spain, called Mudajjan or Melungeons, were seen in colonies. Dr. Brent Kennedy, a descendant of the Melungeons, writes that in the coming years the Melungeons were "pushed off their lands, denied their rights, often murdered, always mistreated, became an embittered and nearly defeated people. Over the ensuing decades--in a vain effort to fit in with their Anglo neighbors, they lost their heritage, their culture, their names, and their original religion but not their genetic structure" (Islamic Horizons, 22:6, pp. 25-6).

One of the most notorious supporters of ethnic cleansing was President Andrew Jackson. Under his presidency in "1830, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act which authorized the president to negotiate exchanges of territory." He gave "southern Indians two alternatives--they could become subject to the discriminatory laws of the states or move west and continue their own governments." Under this policy the Choctaws were targeted in 1830 and removed from Mississippi; the Creeks were forcibly removed from Alabama in 1836; Cherokees were forced from Georgia in 1838; the Great Lakes and Southeastern tribes were forcibly removed to Oklahoma during the 1830s; and the Seminoles were forcibly removed from Florida in 1842 (Indians in American History, 146-9, 298).

Concerning the U.S. policy towards his people, Chief Washakie of the Shoshoni concluded in 1868, "and so, at last, our fathers were steadily driven out, or killed, we, their sons, sorry remnants of tribes once mighty, cornered in little spots of the earth, all ours by right--cornered like guilty prisoners, and watched by men with guns who are more than anxious to kill us off" (Indian Chiefs, R. Freedman, 87).

Whites destroyed such African-American towns as Rosewood, Florida, destroyed in 1923.

In the 1960s, as Britain was dismantling its colonies, the U.S. conspired with Britain to receive secretly, gratis, and for 50 years, the Chagos Archipelago. Between 1965 and 1973, to clear the largest island in the archipelago, Diego Garcia, for a listening post for the U.S. National Security Administration, every man, woman, and child was physically removed from the islands, and placed bewildered and frightened, on the islands of Mauritius and Seychelles, wrote a British writer, Simon Winchester. (See Released July 30, 2001, The Wisdom Fund, P. O. Box 2723, Arlington, VA 22202
Website: http://www.twf.org/index.html — Press Contact: Enver Masud, Deadly Deception, Pretexts for War).

America Must Repent!

America was founded on ethnic cleansing, so when it criticizes some for its use and ignores others—like Israel, it lacks credibility, integrity and moral authority. It must acknowledge its past, voice remorse, cease to support it and compensate its victims to gain those noble qualities.

IX. Supporting Injustice (Illustrates A Lack of Moral Authority)

Whosoever participates in a good cause will have the reward thereof, and whosoever participates in an evil cause will have a share in its burden. And Allah is Able to do (and also a Witness to) everything (al-Qur'an 4:85).

America’s Response:

Thomas Jefferson expressed America's true policy interests in regards to its victims. Concerning enslaved Africans he wrote, "We have the wolf by the ears; and we can neither hold him, nor safely let him go. Justice is in one scale and self-preservation the other" (John Chester Miller, The Wolf by The Ears, Thomas Jefferson and Slavery, Page 241).

Concerning America’s unjust practices, President Thomas Jefferson stated: "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep forever: that considering numbers, nature and natural means only, a revolution of the wheel of fortune, an exchange of situation, is among possible events: that it may become probable by supernatural interference! The Almighty has no attribute which can take side with us in such a contest" (Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia, 1782).

America's unwavering policy towards others has always been good treatment only follows subordination. Andrew Jackson wrote on April 13, 1822 concerning the treatment of his slaves on his Alabama plantation, "as far as lenience can be extended to those unfortunate creatures, I wish you to do so; subordination must be obtained first, and then good treatment" (Our Racist Presidents, M. Steinfeld, 90).

Any authority which American policy makers have given Africans and others has been for their own self-preservation and to maintain the subordination of others. An historian writes, "In working the slave force the overseer generally made use of one or more slave drivers. If there were several of them one was designated head driver and acted almost as a sub-overseer." "Planters thus called upon trusted slaves to become part of the plantation's command hierarchy" (The Peculiar Institution, 40-1). America’s new plantation is the U.N. and its new trusted slaves are the so-called moderate states.

5. Abraham Lincoln shared Thomas Jefferson's misgivings about descendants of Africans, thus he enunciated his American policy towards them: "And inasmuch as they [blacks and whites] cannot so live [together on terms of social and political equality], while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race." (1858 debate with Stephen Douglas).

President Rutherford B. Hayes applied the policy which Thomas Jefferson used for dealing with the Native Americans to African descendants. Namely, insist that they have confidence in their oppressor. On Sept. 22, 1877, President Hayes addressed blacks and whites in Atlanta, GA saying : "After thinking it over, I believe your (blacks') rights and interests would be safer if this great mass of intelligent white men were left alone by the general government." On 4/25/59 Tuskegee Institute announced that 4,733 blacks had been lynched by mobs since 1882.

Winslow Warren who wrote in a letter to the Boston Evening Transcript on Feb. 18, 1899, ". . . do they believe that hypocrisy and lust of territory with the suppression of colored men's rights and liberties will find no Nemesis later?"

In justifying not allowing Negroes to vote, Senator Morgan of Alabama said the following to the 56th Congress, "In physical, mental, social, inventive, religious, and ruling power the African race holds the lowest place. . . . To force this lowest stratum into a position of political equality with the highest is only to clog the progress of all mankind in its march, ever strenuous and in proper order, toward the highest planes of human aspiration" (Racism in U.S. Imperialism, R. F. Weston, 11; Congressional Record, 56 Cong., 1 sess., XXXIII, pt. 1: 673-74 [January 8, 1900]).

President Theodore Roosevelt in his First Annual Message, on 12/3/01, said: It is no light task for a nation to achieve the temperamental qualities without which the institutions of free government are but an empty mocker. . . . What has taken us thirty generations to achieve we cannot expect another race to accomplish out of hand, especially when a large portion of that race start very far behind the point which our ancestors had reached even thirty generations ago.

10. The Nation wrote in 1903, ". . . How hollow will ring Democratic protests against the oppression of the Filipinos while there is Democratic acquiescence to injustice to the negro" (Racism in U.S. Imperialism, R. F. Weston, 12; Nation, LXXVII [Sept. 3, 1903], 182).

President William Howard Taft, in his March 4, 1909 Inaugural Address, concurred with the policy voiced by Senator Morgan of Alabama some nine years earlier. He said, "Of course, the mere adoption of a constitutional law is only one step in the right direction. It must be fairly and justly enforced as well. In time both will come. Hence it is clear to all that the domination of an ignorant, irresponsible element can be prevented by constitutional laws which shall exclude from voting both negroes and whites not having education or other qualifications thought to be necessary for a proper electorate. The danger of the control of an ignorant electorate has therefore passed. With this change, the interest which many of the Southern white citizens take in the welfare of the negroes has increased. The colored men must base their hope on the results of their own industry, self-restraint, thrift, and business success, as well as upon the aid and comfort and sympathy which they may receive from their white neighbors of the South. There was a time when Northerners who sympathized with the negro in his necessary struggle for better conditions sought to give him the suffrage as a protection to enforce its exercise against the prevailing sentiment of the South. The movement proved to be a failure."

In 1960, Patrice Lumumba was elected Prime Minister of the Congo. Due to his pro-African nationalist economic philosophy, President Eisenhower and the CIA targeted him for removal. On 1/17/61, he was assassinated in accord with the wishes of the CIA and the American supported military leader, Mobutu. Mobutu is well known for his repressive, authoritarian regime and economic corruption

The clearest example of continued American support for racial arrogance and ethnic cleansing is America's support of the establishment of the State of Israel. There is no moral, religious or legal justification for its establishment in Palestine. The following illustrates this point: (1) support for Israel is support for ethnic cleansing: In 1918 Jews owned about 2% of the total land area of Palestine and were 8% of the population. (2) the "ancient historic connection" of the Palestinians is longer than that of the Jews: Around 1200 BC Hebrew tribes invaded the Land of Canaan, which was inhabited by the ancestors of the Palestinians, namely, the Philistines, the Canaanites, and other original inhabitants (see The Jordan Times, 11/17/97). (3) "ancient historic connection" does not justify ethnic cleansing: "the Palestine Arabs have had uninterrupted occupation of this land for over 1300 years" (see Palestine: Questions & Answers, 3-4). Any significant presence of Jewish people in Palestine ended in 132 AD under the Roman Emperor Hadrian and continued until the 20th century. "They are still the legal owners of the homes and lands in which the Israelis now live and work." (see Palestine: Questions & Answers, 3-4). (4) the Biblical promise applies to Arabs: Arabs also point out that if the Biblical promise in Genesis 17:8 is valid, it was fulfilled when the Arabs were given the land because they are descendants of Abraham. (5) Palestinian resistance against the existence of Israel is a legitimate right of self-defense. Also, American support for Israel is indisputable proof of America's lack of repentance for its historic abuse of non-Europeans. Before the creation of Israel, Arab representatives declared "against a State established by violence, the Arab States will be obliged to use violence; that is a legitimate right of self-defense" (see Report On Palestine, p. 95). Their continued armed resistance against Israel is totally moral, legal and religiously justifiable.

Israel has a long record of terrorism against the United States going all the way back to 1954. In that year, the Israel government plotted to blow up American installations in Cairo and Alexandria and blame it on Egyptian nationals. By chance the plot faileand was uncovered. It was named the Lavon Affair after the man who supposedly set up the terrorism, Pinhas Lavon, the Israeli Defense Chief. He resigned in 1955 over the incident. (See Bar-Joseph, Uri (1995) Intelligence Intervention in the of Democratic States: The United States, Israel, and Britain. UniversPark, PA: Penn State Press; The Lavon Affair By David Hirst, Excerpts from his book: The Gun and the Olive Branch, 1977, 1984, Futura Publications).

15. In 1986 Israel actually caused us to wrongly go to war and militarily attack another nation. The Mossad planted a transmitter in Tripoli, Libya and then broadcast terrorist messages in Libyan code indicating Libyan responsibility for killing two Americans in the bombing of the La Belle discothèque in Germany. (It was later proven that Libya had nothing to do with the bombing) By use of this fraud, Israel induced the American bombing of Libya. American bombs wrecked havoc there. One of those killed was the infant daughter of the Libyan President. (See Ostrovsky, Victor. (1995) The Other Side of Deception: A Rogue Agent Exposes the Mossad's Secret Agenda. New York: Harper).

America Must Repent!

Being unjust and support for injustice erases any credibility and moral authority America thinks it has. It must acknowledge its past, voice remorse, cease being unjust and cease supporting it. It must also compensate its victims to gain those noble qualities.
