Suburbia    in    the    Fifties

-Suburbia grew a lot in the 1950's

-There were so many babies there that "Babyville" became a nickname for Suburbia

-Couples came to Suburbia in search of clean air, good schools, and a higher social status, all of which they usually found.

-A downside was weary communities who lived near undependable railroads.

-Babysitters were payed around 75 cents per hour.

-A standard lawn decoration was a pink flamingo, sitting in a very carefully tended lawn.

-BBQs were very big and gave people a chance to impress their neighbors.

-Kids grew up on T.V. They all crowded around the black and white set to watch shows like "I Love Lucy".
