HEY-we both know that nobody really enjoys reading a long winded story about somebody else's life, so we won't make you. Instead, the two of us have developed a short outline of Mr. D's life. This will hopefully give you somewhat of an idea of the obstacles he had to overcome and the incidents that influenced the writing of C&P.
*1821-Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (say that one three times fast) was born in Moscow on October 30, the second of seven children *1831-1837-Fyodor attended boarding school in Moscow; mother died in 1837 *1844-begins work on his first novel, "Poor Folk" (I know this should be underlined, but I dont know how to!) *1846-first publication of his career, "Poor Folk" (pretend this is underlined) *1846-1847-begins the onset of epilepsy: has various undiagnosed ailments *1847-1848-publication of short stories and novels *1849-arrested and convicted for several political crimes; was sentenced to death, but because of a last-minute reprieve, was sentenced to Siberia for four years of hard labor *1850-1866-more publications of short stories and more novels *1857-1st marriage to Marya Dmitrievna Isaeva *1866-CRIME AND PUNISHMENT was published *1867-2nd marriage to Anna Grigorievna Snitkina (boy he gets around) *1874-was arrested and convicted for violation of censorship regulations *1881-Dostoevsky dies of a lung hemorrage on January 28, at the age of 59 NOW WASN'T THAT INTERESTING!?!
