On this album, John Zorn,
Bill Frisell, and George Lewis rock out to the hard-bop compositions of
Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley, Sonny Clark, and Freddie Redd. This album is
more of a three way collaboration than a full Zorn project, although it
was his idea. The entire album has a really great sense of play, and of
fun. This is just three great improvisors having a good time. The lack
of a rhythm section gives these guys a lot of room, and makes these rhythm
grounded pieces take on a more ethereal, impressionistic touch.
