FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE ALL STAR GAME

The Florida State League All Star Game was played on June 19th 1999 at Joker Marchant Stadium before a crowd of 4000+. A rain delay brought about a gap of about an hour and a half between the Home Run Derby and the game itself. The game ended in a 9 to 9 tie after 10 innings. FSL Commissioner Chuck Murphy announced at midnight that the game would end as a tie due to lack of pitchers needed to continue the game. It seemed that the festivities were no less spectacular than at previous All Star games in spite of the weather. Fans were treated to a fly in by a hang-glider (sponsored by Cypress Gardens), fireworks, music, and, in the tradition of the Florida State league, a well played, exciting All Star game.
