The Wolf Page

I'd like everyone to meet my internet wolf, Grazer.

Wolves are awesome creatures. Many people view them as dark, sinister animals who are up to no good. I find wolves very fascinating and majestic. Please read on as to why I feel this way.

Some neat wolf facts:

A wolf's brain is 30% larger than that of a dog.

Most wolves weight between 50 and 100 pounds.
Although there was one wolf sighted in the Yukon weighing in at a wopping 227 lbs.!!

A wolf can hear howls from six miles away, ten miles in open areas.

Wolves have great noses. They can sense odors at least a hundred times better than a human.
They have been known to scent prey from a mile and a half away!!

Wolves are highly intelligent creatures. They learn much like human beings by using their powers of observation. Some have learned how to open doorknobs with their mouths just by watching a human open a door.

A wolf travels 40 miles a day on average to find food. It spends about a third of its life trotting or running.

Wolves can reach speeds of up to 35 miles an hour in the heat of an attack. Their stride size during this time has been measured to as much as 16 feet!!

Howling - a form of communication between individual wolves and packs. It's often used as a way for one pack to let other wolves in the area know that they are in their territory. Not all wolves howl right off though; they had to teach the wolf from the movie "Dances With Wolves" how to properly howl!

Here's a few more pictures for your viewing pleasure! Enjoy!!
