7th MARINE Regiment reinforced
departed Camp Pendleton in May
1965 and arrived on White Beach
Okinawa in June 1965.3rd Bn 7th
Marines embarked on float ap
proximately two weeks later.We
disembarked at Qui Nohn, South
Vietnam and protected the air
strip.We were releived by 2nd
Bn 7th Marines. We embarked
and went to Subic Bay, PI for
R&R.We aboarded the ships and
was told the USS Frank KNOX
had run a ground on Parades
Reef.We helped off load her
weapons and ammunition.Once she
was afloat we headed towards Viet
nam,once again. On Aug 18th
Operation Starlite, until of VC
was threatening the airfield at
Chu Lai.2nd Bn 4th Mar, 3rd Bn 3
Mar and 3rd Bn 7th Mar were de
ployed to engage the enemy on the
peninsula near Chu Lai.This was
the first engagement were the
enemy did not take off for parts
unknown. |
