Autumn Poetry

Fallen Leaves
by Deane P. Goodwin

Evening approaches, gentle breeze blowing
My chimes ring a bittersweet song of fall color
chanting prayers and singing
Praises of the circle

Renewal awaits in the colors of the sun
Rising to the heavens on Golden Eagles' wing
Prayer defined as action defined as prayer

The wheel turns
In the center stands, unmoved, the Mother
Guardian of love and life
Nurturing arms upraised for all

Life in the spiral
Leaves,the sacrifice
Labyrinthine dance conjured by ancient Shamen
In amber salute to the dream

Promise, made on the smoke of Autumn's fire
Recognition of
Truth handed down so long ago

Leaves from golden
Become
Green
Alive

And we sing
Praises of the circle

Paradise
by Deb Brewer

The smell of winter rides within the wind
Autumn casts a spell; Nature bows to her power
Animals scurry, leaves fall slowly to the ground
Ruby gems and drops of gold crunch beneath my feet
Paradise to my soul...

breath cools - change comes - leaves fall - flitter away - spent dreams - from branches of

Autumn
by Chris

Tired trees whisper
To golden fields;
Scrambling squirrels
Hurry, scurry;
Misty morning
Heralds gentle breeze;
Melting sun makes way
For silver moon.

Autumn
by Starrlite

We see life ending
as summer closes.
The dew lies longer
the breeze reddens noses

The deer linger less
as opening day nears
and turkeys take flight
on the winds of fear

The nuts on the ground
are stolen much quicker
for late night snacks
in the cold of mid-winter

the trees drop their leaves
and corn stalks turn brown.
The canning is done
for the season's abound

The smells of fresh pies
reach across the yard,
yet, winter is coming..
will it be hard?

Since we can't foretell
of the first snowfall,
the groundhog just waits..
to end it all.

Equinox
by Antoinette Swanson

As autumn closes in
The moon rises high
Hazy, mystical light
Round and full
In the liquid sky
Casting shadows
To hide in the night
And rustle leaves
During the autumn equinox
The cool wind roams
Caressing the soul

Fond Autumn Memories
by Becky

Sunflowers nodding farewell,
To the sweltering summer sun.
Pale yellow corn stalks whispering,
In the cold north wind.
Canadian Geese chevroning the gray sky,
Honking their way southward.
Pumpkins, ripe on the vine, sparkling with frost,
Beneath a round harvest moon.
Leaves patch working the earth,
Covering the frostbitten grass with a multicolored crazy quilt.
Fat-cheeked red squirrels scurrying,
As they gather nuts for their larders.
Mums boldly flaunting crimson, orange, and yellow blooms,
Oblivious to the coming winter.
Hay wagons carrying lively teens,
Carousing in the golden straw.
Crunching tangy-sweet apples,
Smothered with rich gooey caramel.
Bon fires reflecting warm flickers,
In two lovers glowing eyes.
Mallards resting among the cattails,
bobbing on the lakes silver surface.
Michigan has given me,
Many fond Autumn memories.

Autumn

by Judy Lewis

A stand of birches, icy white barked,
Shed their leaves like golden rain
Amid the fog of haunted autumn
Death may be a whispered message
In the swirl of ghostly mist
Yet eruptions of violent color
Hot with red and sulphur yellow
Are the mimics of our own season
I much prefer the bite of October
To the cloying scent of pollen rich May
This does not feel like green life dying
More like creation changing its mind
And redesigning the complexion of life
Painting foliage, softening jawlines
Into new expressive art forms
I have travelled a long way for this view
It is the destination I always had in mind
Uncovering bright mysteries in the act
Of abandoning our first seasons skin
Hold me fast for it is best to be well rooted
When we stand bare boned in the cold of winter
