In 1997 there are still very few 'players of colour' in the NHL. That's something that will change.

Here are a few the current players.

Grant Fuhr One of the best goalie's ever to play the game.

Anson Carter has been a winner at every stage of his career including a gold medal with the Canadian Juniors at the World Championships. One of the top prospects in the Boston Bruins organization.

Donald Brashear, the Vancouver Canucks forward is often thought of as merely a tough guy. In fact heis a highly skilled player.

Mike Grier a hard hitting forward with the Edmonton Oilers, Mike also has the scoring touch.

Jason Doig a defenceman with the Phoenox Coyotes, he's also a scoring threat.

Jarome Iginla was a runner-up for rookie of the year and will be a scoring force for years to come.

Sandy McCarthy, currently with the Calgary Flames.

Georges LaRaque has split this season between the Edmonton Oilers and their AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.
