Located at the extreme end of the Indus delta, Karachi is the largest and the most modern city of Pakistan. Karachi became Pakistan's first capital on August 14, 1947. Since that time, Karachi's population has grown from 350,000 to over 12 million people. This tremendous growth has paralled Karachi's development into a vital commercial and industrial center. A seaport, air and rail terminals, Karachi is a busy city with modern residential areas, two universities, over 50 collages, hospitals, clubs, beaches, and good hotels. There are also parks, museums, aquariam and a zoo. Tennis, squash, golf, scuba diving, yachting, bunder boating, deep sea fishing and horse back riding are all popular sports.
