Johnny Roman-Rivera wrestled his best all season, maybe the best in his career, as he picked up his first career tournament championship. The championship match was probably his easiest match all day as he picked apart his opponent 13-3.
Troy Cunningham had probably his biggest test of the year and once again he succeeded. West Valleys Devin Moorman-Stelter and Troy were tied at 1-1 in regulation. In OT Troy got Stelter in a front headlock, seemed to be in a bit of trouble when Stelter got in deep, but in the ensuing scramble Troy was able to get Stelter in a double leg ride and came out on top for the TD and the win. Troy was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
Johanns, Hagins, Samsel and Hudspeth all had good showings and look to be wrestling well as we enter the final leg of the season.
Coach Hill and Cunningham have done some good coaching the past couple years and it is showing in the improvement of each wrestler that has stuck it out under their regime. They should be congratulated for their performance as well. Coach Rolland has also provided the team with some enthusiastic coaching and encouragement.
