Creating a Circle
A circle is created to protect the worker and help them concentrate. It is a work space.
The Ritualistic Method
The typical ritual circle consists of:
- A circle, drawn or imagined around the work area.
- Incense, or other burning material, to represent the element of air. Placed to the east.
- A candle to represent the element of fire. Placed to the south.
- A cup of water to represent the element of water. Placed to the west.
- A pot of earth/dirt/soil/loam to represent the element of earth. Placed to the north.
- The person working, who represents the fifth element - that of spirit. Placed in the centre.
There's a lot of other stuff people use depending on the specifics of the spell, such as food, drink, music, swords, daggers,
herbs, pentagrams, leaves and brooms, etc. The basic casting of the casting of the circle and charging it with power goes
something like this:
- Draw a circle of energy from yourself, your personal energy.
- Imagine the circle in your mind, a strong barrier.
- Call each of the elements to you in turn, starting with air, moving clockwise.
- Call by asking, inviting them with mind, spirit and/or voice.
- With each element imagine the circle becoming stronger, more protective.
- Some people like to ring a bell after each call, or hold their athame's up high. Do what feels right to you.
- Then call to you the spirit of the Goddess and the Horned God (or whatever is appropriate to you). This represents calling aspects of yourself, the fifth element.
- Close your eyes and think on the strength, the power of these 5 elements together.
- Reapeat this process as many times as you need to.
- You 'feel' when the circle is ready. Don't expect immediate results the first time, but it will get quicker with practise.
The circle is cast! You then perform your ritual or spell. Afterwards undo the circle: work in reverse, thanking each of the elements in
turn for their aid/company/protection. Imagine the energy/power of the circle dispersing, draw it back into you. This tidies up after yourself
spiritually, so then you can tidy up physically.
This takes approximately 20 minutes to do and 20 minutes to undo, although it varies from person to person.
The Simplistic Method
To create a circle using the simplistic method, feel the energies around you. Draw them into yourself. Draw in in every element,
every spirit, all that you require. Then imagine these energies bursting forth from you in a spherical shape, to create a sphere/circle
around you - strong, impenetrable, protective. The circle is then cast.
Once you have finished the work, disperse the energies. Draw a little back into yourself to replenish what you put into the circle. ((You will
find you invariably do.)) Be sure to thank the energies/elements/spirits for their aid/protection. Do this by dispersing them with great care and
love, and gratefulness.
This takes approximately 30 seconds to do and 30 seconds to undo.
