Magic ~ one witches view

What is magic?

To most people magic is an unexplained phenomenon; a 'force' outside the realms of science which can work all manner of miracles. This is only partly true. Witches believe that magic is a merely a 'plane' existing alongside the everyday 'reality'. It is subtle, just beyond the normal perception, but there are ways of perceiving it. It is sometimes called the Astral Plane, or Dreamscape, because it can be entered through dreams. Some people visit it on a nightly basis without even realising it.

Dreamscape is an interweaving. It binds all physical things together with unseen threads and creates empathy between us. The Goddess and her Consort are an integral part of this network, as they are all things. They are with us through this network, as well as through themselves, in the same way we are with other.

Magic is the 'nudging' of these threads. By visualization, concentration, dedication, faith in themselves and their chosen deity/ies, witches are able to influence the threads slightly, thus creating an affect on the physical plane.

Does magic actually work?

Yes, magic does work. However, it cannot work on its own; it must be complimented with physical actions. For instance, a spell to try and get a job will not work unless you go to the interview.

Often, magic will not work as expected or not work fully. A spell I performed a few years ago to try and make me more attractive ((~grins~ the vanity of youth!!)) only made me appear so. I did not change physically, but shortly afterwards, I realised that I was looking at myself in a whole new way - I found that I had more self-confidence and was even proud of my body. So while the spell didn't do exactly what I wanted, it did something better. My new attitude conveyed itself to other people thus making me APPEAR more attractive.

Magic is something that needs to be worked at. The more the witch puts into the spell, the better their visualisation and concentration, the more likely it is that the spell will work. It is not something that can be used on a whim. Thought and work goes into being a witch, but most find it is ultimately worth it.

Isn't all this just coincidence?

Entirely possible. However, what people who ask this question forget is that this is a belief. We believe that magic is real and we can affect the word about us through it.
