Minako's HTML Web Design Help

Thanks Ly for this image

Hello friends! Does this happen to you when you work on your page? Are you scared this may happen to you? Well, you have come to the right place! Ask me your web page questions and I will do my best to answer them!

I know that I, Minako, would be the last person you would come to ask HTML questions to, but I'll do my best, Seiya's_Odango and Ami-chan are helping me!

Since no one has asked any questions yet, I guess I'll do a small tutorial on how to make a great page. We all know that no site can be perfect, but you can make yours one of the best! Here are some hints:

Places to get your homepage:

Xoom

Geocitites

Fortune City

Tripod

Cybercities

After you register with your web host, you shold then decide what kind of SM page you'd like. Think about it, do you want a combo page, a Senshi shrine, some kind of club or resource center?

After you get that figured out, decide how you want your page layout. Frames or no frames? Just regular, have everything there like mine? Whatever layout you decide, make sure you keep it organized, and the load time to a minimum! This is a biggie! Most web surfers are not forgiving or have a limited amount of time on the computer, so they do not want to be at a page that loads rather slowly. Some things you can do to lower the load time on your page are:

Don't splatter you page with images! Unless it's an image gallery, (which you should have thunbnails for) keep the images to a minimum, or resize them in an image editor program. See if you can do this without making your page lacking in originality or quality.

Background images are very pretty and creative, but they load as well! Your background shouldn't be humongous in file size, because it might really add time to your total load time!

Don't add MIDIs to your page. Sometimes they're nice, but other times they might be annoying or take very long to load. If you do decide to embed a MIDI into your page, don't make it automatic! Some people literally go crazy if they hear the MIDI! Also, you might want to decide if you want it to loop or not.

Next you should decide where to get resources, like images and info. If you do not have a scanner, you'll probably need to go to Sailormoon Resource sites. A good list of some are:

Sailormoon.org
This is a great place you can get JPGs and GIFs, movies, web graphics and possibly more!

The SM Toolbox
A great site! GIFs, JPGs, manga and anime images, and lots of tips and tricks for making your page!

Lycentia's SM Background and GIF Shop
The place to get beautiful Sailormoon backgrouds and hundereds of GIFs! I use backgrounds from there, but I'll be making my own soon.

Freecenter
Okay, so this is non-SM, but it is very good. They tell you where you can get free web space, mailing lists, chats, images, forums, JAVA, message boards and much more!

Do and Don't

DO be creative with profiles and sections. See if you can get origonal images or info. If not, ask someone to make images for you...*hint, hint* Ask me!

DON'T just spit out profiles or stats, or generic info. (Yawns) That's very boring, and people would just skip that part of your page. People have E-Mailed me about my page, and they say they enjoy my profiles section because the info is good, and not generic.

DO give credit where it is due. If you used (not stole, which you shouldn't be doing) images, info or anything else from someone's page, give them credit and a link! That's the least you could do!

DON'T just presume you have a page because it has images on it. People prefer content, rather than pretty. Content should come first, then you can add whatever sprakles and flashy stuff you like, but don't overdo. Remember, load time!
