Why don't you let me take you
it's no good to go alone
Never would have opened up, but you seemed so real to me
After all the bullshit I've heard, it's refreshing not to see
I see the first two lines as Scully speaking to Mulder, echoing her words in the pilot-"I'm not a part of any agenda. You've got to trust me. I'm here just like you, to solve this." And the second two lines, I believe, speak for themselves-Mulder to Scully. He tried not to let her in, tried to hold on to his belief that she was one of 'Them', but the proof she gave of her loyalty-i.e., going against the book in 'Deep Throat' to rescue him-eroded away his defenses, and by 'Squeeze', they were working as a unit.
I don't have to pretend she doesn't expect it from me
A testimony to Mulder's countless ditchings, as well as the omnipresent threat of the Mulderbabes. He reasons a) that with his words in the pilot-"Nothing else matters to me"- she would understand his leaving her behind, and b) that she wouldn't care about him anyways. *Note from the author-if we SarahMcers could get our hands on the people who screwed up Mulder's psyche, they would not enjoy it very much.
So don't tell me I
Haven't been good to you, don't tell me I
never been there for you, just tell me why
nothing is good enough
These lines could be seen in several lights; Mulder addressing his parents for all the wrongful guilt they'd laid upon him, or Scully to Mulder; another testimony to his countless ditchings. She lays her career, her family, and her life on the line for him many times over, and yet he runs off to cute detectives or entomologists with names like Bambi. (What kind of sicko would name their kid 'Bambi' anyways? I swear...) But no matter how often he may have fun with these...lower forms of life, he invariably returns to Scully-and she's always there for him. We didn't hear him telling Dr. Berenbaum about a praying-mantis epiphany, did we now?
Hey little girl would you like some candy
Your momma says that it's okay
"'The reason we've called you in here, Agent Scully, is that we'd like you to assist Mulder on these X-Files. You will write field reports, along with your observations on the validity of the work.' 'Am I to understand that you want me to debunk the X-Files project, sir?'" These words I see as the Consortium offering Scully a choice to climb ever higher in the Bureau's hierarchy, or to go down with Mulder. (Was it ever in doubt?)
The door is open come on outside
No I can't come out today
Scully puts her foot down. *g* She's loyal to Mulder, but she's not gonna take any crock from him either.
It's not the wind that cracked your shoulder and threw you to the ground
Need I say more? What happened to you in 'Anasazi', Mulder? *ggl* For the absent-minded Philes among us, I'll provide the answer:
Oh so just let me try
And I will be good to you, just let me try
And I will be there for you I'll show you why
you're so much more than good enough...
Once again, Scully's pleading with Mulder to let her in, to tell her what happened after he ditched her, to allow her to help him. In the end, that's what the series is all about-it can be summed up in one simple phrase:
