One key rule to remember....is that I have to have my own house clean, before I can clean someone else's. What this means is: I cannot have unresolved issues and expect to be helpful with someone else. Another good rule of thumb is to leave my client's at work....I can not take them home with me (figuritivly speaking) or I am setting my self up for burnout...... Also counselor's need counselor's in order for us to stay healthy.
