The Autostrada del Sole or Autostrada Milan-Rome-Neaples is the most important public work after the second worl war. The 19 may 1956 began is costruction in Milan. The Autostrada was completed in 1964. The following is a breef cronology of the construction:

19 may 1956: the works began in Milan.

15 July 1959: the Autostrada came in Bologna.

3 december 1960: the Autostrada came in Florence.

22 september 1962 the Autostrada was open between Rome and Neaples

4 october 1964 the Autostrada was open between Florence and Rome.
