Hermod
Son of Odin and Frigg, brother of Baldr and Hodr. Messenger of the gods.
He rode to Hel's realm after the death of Baldr to try and convince her to let Baldr come back from the dead. Odin lent him his eight-legged horse Skirnir for the journey. The great noise made by the thunderous hooves as Hermod crossed the crystal Gjoll bridge into Helheim provoked the grim guardian Morgud to complain irritably that Hermod must be alive. When the the whole world did not weep for Baldr, Hel refused to allow him to leave her side. Baldr gave Hermod the arm-ring which Odin had placed on his funeral boat to return to his father as a memento.
